Oil dipstick stuck and broke off

Oil dipstick stuck and broke off - 06/09/21 08:05 PM

Title says it.
The last time i got the oil changed, the dipstick was stuck, and in trying to wiggle it out, i broke off the pull ring.
Later I sprayed some WD40 on the piece left. With a pair of pliers was able to twist it a bit. In my excitement, i broke the rest of the remaining yellow plastic off flush with the tube.

I bought a new (Dorman) tube and dipstick.

Question is. How difficult is it to replace? I have seen horror stories of broken tubes. But mine is still intact. How does the mechanic ensure he doesn’t brake the tube in the process?

(I’m not capable of doing this myself)

I appreciate any input. Thanks!

Depends on how rusty the tube is where it enters the block. If it's crusty there, then there's a real good chance of breaking it off. And if you do get it out you usually drop some flakes into the pan. Use penetrating oil, heat and patience and most of the time you can get it out. If it does break off flush with the block, sometimes an easy-out will get it out of there.

If it's just the dipstick that needs to come out, try some forceps (roach clip).

Roach clip? I always used a hemostat...

Hemostat, that's the word I was looking for.
