I don't know about your ride but in my 98 there is a button in the glove box along the left side not in the box itself but just to the left of the box behind the door that opens (see attachment). that I push to disable the traction control. Your best bet woule be to look in the owners manual.

However if you want to completly remove it I think you need a chip and a tune to disable it but I am not sure

As 98VicP71 said, you can get a tune/chip that will permanetly disable the traction control.

you can pull the ABS fuse which will disable teh traction control and will render your ABS useless, and the light will stay on the dash.

Get a toggle switch and replace the momentary switch with it, many have done that, and I don't think it has changed for the 06. That DOESN'T work for the earlier low speed traction control only cars, just the all speed traction control cars.

Reason I ask is.. I have stumbled across something and I am not sure exactly what it is or what its purpose is either.

I have TC and the TC Off button on the left side of the dash. Here is the issue - if you press and hold the TC button for about 10-15 seconds, the light turns off and the button appears to not work again during the current run cycle (resets if you turn the car off).

What is that?

That should be your trac control shut-off. It will reset once you restart the car if it is like my '99, but mine is in the glove compartment. Some were on the dash like you stated.

When the TC(traction control) is disabled, you can spin the tires. Once you shut the car off, it resets and you have to hit the button again if you don't want it to work. The locations for the switch moved over the years. Some were in the door to the glovebox like mine, others were on the dash to the left of the steering wheel, should be woodgrain trim there if I remember right.

TC works by applying the brakes to slow the wheel down and if that doesn't slow it down enough, then it reduces engine power to stop wheelspin. Hopefully, I have explained everything correctly.

I got that. I don't think you all are understanding me.

The TC button is to the left of the steering wheel. A button that lights up when I press it that indicates it is "OFF".

HOWEVER - My point being - If you press and hold that button for 10-15 seconds, the light goes off permanently. Pressing the button again and again does nothing - NO LIGHT COMES ON. It stays like that until the car is turned off and back on.

Oh, I see said the blind man-sorry.

Not sure, I'll try that in my '99 and see what happens. How does the car act afterwards? Like the TC is working or not?

It defaults to "ON", sine you are holding it down so long the system thinks there is a short or problem with the trac off switch. So it just defaults and leaves it on. THis prevents a malfunctioning switch from randomly act/de-act the trac during the driving cylce, should there be a fault within the switch.

If you want to permanently disable it, get a tune. Pulling the ABS fuse may still allow the engine portion of th trac control (Engine Torque Modulation) to function, limiting power drastically.
