Usually a valet key will operate the door locks and start the car but will not open the trunk, so you can keep money, bodys, and other such things in the back and not worry about them getting stolen.

just what it means, a valet key. So when you have a valet attendant park your car, he or she can only open the door and start the car so they can't pick thru your glovebox or trunk looking for some goodies.

Oh ok well I figured you can get a valet attendant a regular key I dont see what is so special about an extra key designated as a valet key. But now I know! Thank You.

Don't some sports cars have a valet key that only lets the car go so fast, so that the punks can't go joyride in your car?

Once they get into the Vic or Marquis all they have to do is hit the button for the trunk and all your stuff is gone.I'm sure they all know where it is.

The Leos caught a whole bunch of valets stealing stuff from cars in South Beach after a sting. If you have choice park it yourself.

I always thought it was primarily for the glovebox.

On my 99 and now on my 05 its on the drivers door so the valet key is a total waste to stop theft.

You can lock the trunk release button on the door, then it cannot be depressed.
THe valet key cannot open this lock, nor the glovebox or trunk itself.

Actually they can't. There's a place for a key in the trunk release, you lock that and they can't pop the trunk from inside either.

Not unless you lock the switch with the regular key before hand. I keep mine locked all the time anyway.

The valet keys only unlock the driver's side door and start the engine, do not open trunk or glove box.

BTW, '06 MGMs do not have a door lock on the passenger side anymore.

I never knew you could lock it that way all these years.

Thanks for the info.

The only thing i know that was stolen from the trunk was some Motorcraft filters and some cd's

How does one get a valet key for a CV? I seen them for GM's only.

I had one on another car and I feel better giving it out instead of my regular key.
