Well, here it is. I am going to call and take it in for service today for this and the damn window squeek. Oh and also the squeekyness of the driver seat.

That's BS, should that bolt be left exposed like that?

I'm going to take a look at mine right now and see what it looks like.

Edit: I just looked at mine and it appears to be the same way, but I can't get a good look at it because the slit in the leather isn't big enough to look in there, either way that's dumb to make that like that. How did that happen?

It's even worse with the cloth seats. When looking for an 02+ CV, I found that more than 90% of the driver's seats had tears there if there was more than 40k on the odometer.

It is pretty crappy that happened. Not sure why they would leave a bolt like that under a highly used seat with no support in that area. Use is what tore it. Granted my fat ass did not help, but still - I can see it happening to anyone - just might take longer.

As said previously, there is no support in that area at all. When you sit in the seat, the leather/cloth pretty much pulls down over that bolt. After a while the stretching will be enough to allow the bolt to pull through or it will eventually tear.

Sadly, I see no way in preventing it. Even if I put something over the bolt, the leather will still be stressed because there is nothing under it to prevent stretching.

Put your palm in your seat and press down near the middle back. You will see the indintation form.

That's a really idiotic design. Something you expect to see in a Yugo or something.

I think they might have put the bolt in backwards. At least, it should have been put in that way.

That's what I was thinking, but mine is the same as yours, it just hasn't ripped the seat...yet.

Yeah, who know's.

Its going in for service tomorrow. Wonder if they are going to replace the seat or the cover. The seat squeeks too so I am not sure which one they are going to do.

My 04 drivers seat (swapped into my 00) is the same way, although it isn't leather, I can see the bolt very clearly.

Thanks to all for pointing this out. Someone in charge of selecting fasteners was asleep at the wheel when they designed the seat frame, it seems.

I just performed the "seat mod" (removed the bolt and shortened it so as to be flush) before any damage took place.

How difficult was the soon to be famous "seat mod"?

It seem like it's pretty tight in there, I'm not sure how I could get the bolt out of there without ripping my seats.

It was pretty easy with cloth seats. If you recline the seat, it will perhaps make it easier for you to push down the material around that hinge. A 13mm socket removes the bolt. I took off five threads and the whole unthreaded nipple part of the bolt with an angle grinder and then rounded the cut portion a bit.

Sounds, time consuming. I think I will have Ford put the right bolt in or something shorter.
