Ok, so I was headding up the interstate this afternoon so I figured I'd fire up the 'ol CB radio. I was also listening to a CD at the same time. I key up the mic to ask for a check and "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!" Some sort of ungodly feedback came over the radio speakers in my car. The only way to get the feedback to go away was to have one of the radios completely off. I have no idea where this is coming from! I've had the radios working perfectly for the past few months. I have no idea what would cause this all of the sudden. Now that I'm thinking about it...after I turned off my AM/FM/CD player, I still don't think my CB was transmitting.

Something is screwed up. Any ideas?

I don't think there is any correlation between those two... maybe your cb is going out...

Where is your cb getting power and do you have one of those splitters that split your am/fm signal into a CB antenna?

CB is getting power from what was my cigarette lighter, and it also has its own mag-mount antenna.

I used a short antenna on my cb mounted on the deck lid & had the same problem. Take a look where your radio antenna is in relation to your cb antenna. Remember your CB antenna broadcasts from the tip. A 36" Lil Will base loaded antenna solved my problem.

I'll bet you have the squelch set just at the point where it is silent, when you unkey, it's unsquelching the radio... set the squelch up a little bit higher.. and BTW, that would be interference going THROUGH the squelch setting...

maybe I misread it... is it your CB or your CD player making all the noise??

If it's your CD player, I say it's feeback from the CB when transmitting....

If it's your CB making the noise, see my post..

It's coming from the CD player whenever I key up the CB.

RF interference, entering through the vehicle radio antenna...

relocate the CB antenna...

Ok, CB antenna is a mag mount on the roof. My radio antenna is in the back glass. Where would be a better place to move it to?

...maybe it's time to finally get that loaded base coil low-band antenna for my rear fender, lol.

I don't carry CB 'stuff'.... you're better off with ebay.

NMO baseload 1/4 wave... Antenna Specialists is my preference, with maxrad second, although they're owned by the same company..

Before you move you antenna, put a SWR meter on the cb radio. You can pick them up cheap at radio shack. You could be really far out of tune and sending alot of the RF back at the radio and radiating out from there and so close to the radio its bleeding over. But experiment with the antenna, you may not have to leave the roof, but keep trying, if it fails go for the trunklid, but a SWR meter will let you have a little more data to work with. Magmounts are bad enough as it is, a poorly tuned one can make CBing completely unenjoyable. Get back to us.
