Just as stated what can a 4.6 crankshaft handle for power, 600-700 hp or no. The forged cobra can handle some power but I was wondering about ours.

Fox Lake Power claims that their motors will take up to 700HP using the Stock Iron GT Crankshaft. I am sure it is safe to say 500.

I thought that the majic number was 400hp on stock internals. Everyone says you can't run a 9psi AED blower without the bottom being forged.

Sure you can, it just depends on how old the motor is and how many miles are on it.

he asked about the crank. Not the rods and pistons!!!!!
When they say forged they are talking rods and pistons. Not usually the crank.

Yeah I bought some 4340 Manley H beams and some manley forged piston with 11cc dish. I want to know how much this crank can take.

You shouldn't run forced induction on a stock bottom - lots of people do, but alot of people smoke 2 packs a day still.

Rods and pistons for sure. Crank too imNSho, but I've experienced boosted failure on cast internals and prefer not to make the same mistake twice.

Stock internals (including the rings and bearings, etc) are not rated, and were not setup, for the abuse that a poweradder applies to a motor.

Stock cranks have been found to be pretty reliable - certainly for a NA motor. I think I can count on one hand the number of 4.6 (hyperpathetic) crank failure threads or stories I've heard in the past 5 years. On the other hand, although heavy, a forged cobra crank is a pretty nice piece of balanced hardware, capable of some SERIOUS rpm.

Well, it'll certainly hold every bit of power those will put out NA. New or used? But what are you planning as far as a power-adder goes? The juice again? I'd think it'll hold as big a nitrous shot as you can stuff in a fogger - that's for sure.

The risk of an overrev is nil with the automatic: so that's another reason not to bother to err on the safe side with the cobra or other forged crank. You're not going to suddenly find yourself boosted up above 7grand.

Edit: the typical estimate on the depot is between 500-700hp with the 700 end being pretty much theoretical. Lots of guys in the 500's. The question would be the combination of a power-adder and high-rpms (assuming juice). This, again, argues for forged as a safety measure if you're doing it right.

Do you think it could handle about 300hp NA and then a 2 stage nitrous setup thats about a 275-300 shot, 175wet , with a dry125 stage on top.

I agree with the above post. If your going through the trouble of putting in rods and pistons, you should take care of the next weakest link, due to the huge increase in power you talking about. It sounds a like a very cool project.

I think that looks good, but the 125 dry shot on top of the 175 wet might be a little unnecessary. I mean, you could get yourself a pair of fart tube mufflers and an APC windshield banner, and get pretty much the same gains.

I want to make 600-700 horse at the tires, I don't think a 175 wet shot will get me there. I won't use the second stage unless I have to
