I had this car a few months a go, and asked a question about a CEL. The car was rotated away from me to someone else last month, and now I have it back again.
Anyway, 99 CVPI, bone stock, 170K miles.
The CEL comes on at startup as normal, then goes out. Shortly after startup, I get a series of beeps. There are five, and they repeat five times. I was told that this is because the CEL is burnt out, but it comes on at start up. With the key on/engine off, the beeps occur, and at regular intervals while driving. The source of the beeping seems to be the lighting command module.
Any thoughts?

Does the airbag light illuminate and go out after you start it?

lol...

well im not saying this is the problem but it could be the problem, but perhaps. when i had my 2000 CV, i had a problem with the CEL coming on and off at times also. I took it to AAMCO and the mechanic told me i had a bad Alternator which would work sometimes and sometimes it wouldnt. My CEL would come on after starting then along with the battery sign (dont know if you get the battery sign also) and then along with other panel signs after driving. That would only happen when the alternator would freeze up and when it work again it would go away. So i replaced the alternator it all ceased.

What im saying is could be that, you should go to a local shop or AAMCO, and have a mechanic check if your alternator is working properly. could be a cheap and quick fix instead of something more seriously, like transmission...

It isn't a CEL, someone removed the bulb from the airbag warning light or it is burned out, likely due to an airbag error. I wouldn't like either, but the ding would annoy me more than the light blinking.

it should be flashes/ding, a pause, then flashes/ding, like ding ding ding [pause] ding ding.

Its going to be airbag related.

Until recently, we had a couple w/ 200K+.
My previous one had about 180K.

Yes, and it still runs great at 170k, I'm reserve, so it's not on the street every day.
Ya'll are right, it is the air bag. The light is out, so it dings to let you know.
