Curious...what type of paint is used on the P71 steel wheels? Is it a powder coating? I don't think it's clear coated because when I take my '07 P71 through the local automatic car wash (that uses 18 molar sulphuric acid as wheel cleaner...LOL) the wheels have a very dull and chalky look and require waxing to obtain a low gloss satin look. When I wash my '07 P71 at home using a gentle automotive detergent on the wheel paint, the wheels retain the low gloss satin look. Wondering what type of paint is used on the wheels. Thanks.
Collin

They only paint them so they don't rust sitting around before being delivered.

yeah i just painted mine with gloss black rust-olium, they turned out great!, i put a coat of wax on them to keep them shiny, and the brake dust wipes right off.

Most of the guys I work with (including me) went down to Walmart and bought some cheap gloss black spray paint and sprayed them all. The paint has held up excellent and hasn't come off after months of driving. And all we did to prep them was clean the wheels, no sanding or anything like that. The factory wheels look like crap. *DING DING DING* 1$/can.. I used one can for all four tires... see sig.... All I did was wash it,then scuff up the surface with a brillo pad.. I did use primer though... took all of ten minutes for all 4 wheels.. I think I'm going to redo it in flat black though.

I think a flat black wheel with a nice shiny center cap on it would look good.

BMFer's steelie repaint is by far the most extensive I've seen yet, and the result speaks for itself: --- Image courtesy BMFer That is some nice work...very professional looking.

I've wondered what an '05 steelie would look like with glossy black paint. Can't seem to wrap my head around it but I think it might look nice. Might take the time to do that to my wheels one of these days.

I know it's an '03 steelie so just imagine a few more "windows" on the steelie. I quit using tire dressing on the steelies a while back when I read the warning on the can that acetone and hexane were in the contents...so I was actually removing the existing black steelie paint. DOH!
