They look sweet after being painted gloss.

I'll have to give it a shot. Maybe I'll just haul the spare tire out of the trunk and experiment.

It's not specifically made for metal, but I loved what Krylon Fusion did for my grille, so I could try it on the wheels. Very little actual prep to be done. I'd probably have to scrape off all the old paint on the wheels though, just to get the surface nice and even.

Krylon fusion will work fine on metal!

I like to think of it like a spray paint with adhesion promoter mixed right in. It works great with even little prep at all.

The only thing I don't like about the gloss black krylon fusion is that it is pretty dull compared to true black auto paint - I compared them both side to side when I was doing a project on my other car.

Very true about gloss black krylon. Used it on my grill hoping that it would be close to auto paint and it was no where near that.

I painted my rough looking steelies this weekend with a can of good gloss black paint. They look great.

Well, the satin black I used on my grille came out pretty shiny in the end, in fact almost too shiny. I went ahead and just put it on with a few heavy coats.

I do have a can of automotive lacquer sitting around too, which brings out a really nice shine, particularly on stuff that hasn't been painted (my black plastic toolkit has an uncharacteristic glimmer to it now). I didn't use it on the grille, but it might do well for the wheels.

So yeah, I'll definitely have to try it and of course, get pics up.

Hmm, I'll be getting a mesh grill soon so maybe I'll try a different paint and auto lacker and the grill surround.

Well.. Since it takes about 10 minutes to white-out the steelies, anyone wanna give me some encouragement to do it?? ;\)

The only thing I can think of with white steelies, is they'll get dirty just about instantly.

As a follow up...

You should white out your wheels, Techno. Think how much less people will mistake you for an impersonator. [Fozzy]Whacka whacka whacka! [/Fozzy]

Almost done with my painting, gotta clearcoat the fronts and I'll be done. Pics coming tomorrow!

Okay, here's some pics of my new paint job.

Before:

After:

Mounted on the Vic:

This was done with a generous amount of Krylon Fusion Gloss Black, followed by two coats of Plasti-Kote Classic Lacquer Clear. (Anyone know where to get Plasti-Kote anymore? I can't find it anywhere!!!)
