Help!!! I got in my car for lunch today and noticed a large loss of power that was not there this morning. the engine revs up but it takes a while the shifts are slow and the engine lobbs slightly. I replaced spark plug wires today and the plugs I will do tonight. I would consider the cats but the power loss was not gradual at all, it just suddenly had no power. Any ideas.

Sounds like what happened on my Vic... Odds are it is most likely the Torque Converter.

Does it rev when driving, just not want to move as fast? Has it shuddered before? Is it late shifting up? Is it worse when you give a lot of gas? Did you do a stall test? I'd advise you to do that.

If its the cats, I would suspect the CEL to be on.

The car really hesitates to accelerate the engine hardly responds. The engine does not rev up when driving, it does not shudder, it is really slow to down shift, the car acts the same in drive and overdrive. It can reach high rpms, which per a friend, rules out the fuel system... maybe. His theory is that if was a fuel problem it would stutter at high loads and rpm. I disconnected the MAF, the engine just spun a little faster and the CEL came on
when I reconnected it, it dropped in RPM. Are engines supposed to stall when you do this and what is a stall test.

Could be a fuel filter. Could have had some junk sucked up into it. I would swap that out in addition to changing your plugs as you have planned.

All right, I also have to do the valve stem seals this weekend and I should just get the fuel pump pressure checked just to rule that out. Is my engine suppose to stall when I unplug the MAF?

Yes!! Also if your cleaning it don't do it while the engine is on. It doesn't sound like a TC now that you said that since the engine isn't responsive. Coils maybe?

So I did the spark plugs and no change. I'm going to take it to a shop tomorrow so they can hook it up to an computer. Also when the car is cold the engine doesn't want to do anything when I apply the gas. It just sputters and pops for the first 10 -15 seconds, after that, it smoothes out and I can drive.

It seems that someone just recently posted a thread "hesitation" on a problem that sound exactly like mine. I will let you guys know what the shop says tomorrow

I took it to the shop and the owner couldn't figure it out. he didn't charge me. I went and replaced the fuel fitler and still no change. Next is to test the fuel pump.

So i figured out what was wrong... When I took it to the mechanic he put it on a scanner and from there he saw that the injectors were staying open for too long inorder to compensate for something. Soooo, from there I figure that if it was a bad sensor and the injectors were trying to compensate for, the engine whould be running rich. That was not the case. So it had to be a fuel pressure issue so the regulator went first and did not change anything. out came the fuel pump and to my suprise the previous ower had failed to secure the tube to the actual motor within the tank. So basically the fuel was leaking back into the tank. Replaced the fuel pump just because, fixed the hose and problem solved.
