On my 89 CV LTD I hit something in the road that I did not have time to avoid. There are twoo bars that run from the frame up underneath where the engine and front suspension componants. When I hit it, it tore one of them loose. I have not noticed any differences in the way it drives and I was wondering what they are, what they do and should I worry about replacing them anytime soon.

I'd class them as frame stiffeners. I'd replace the bar if it was mine.

yyeah they just assist in stiffness of the frame, kinda like the fender bars you'll ocassionally find on older full-size GenMo cars..

your better off replacing it, but its not something that can damage the car
