I just bought an 00 with 101k on it and it is one of the cleanest cars I have got at the auction right out of service, although my 99' was a little cleaner when I bought in 9/05'.

Anyways, I can't hear any abnormal noise in the front of the engine cold or hot. Oil is a little darker then normal for only having 800 miles on it, but I am going to change it just so I know it has been changed. Will an oil sample tell me if the guides or tensioners are bad? I will also cut the filter open as well to check for metal.

Reason being is NOT ALL 2000 models will have a failure. It may very well have old guides from back in 99 as maybe ford did not run out of the good ones. Plus I see a huge pattern of high idle time causing failure of these guides over a civilian car such as a lincoln or GM that has very little idle time. A P71 that idles 2 hrs a day will add considerable miles to the engine, so a 60k car may have 240k on it if you counted idle time.

I don't think they test for plastic/nylon, but I assume if it is to the metal it would show up that way.

I have never found any nylon/plastic in the oil drained or filter cut open on my 00 GM.

If you dont hear any sounds i wouldnt worry about it. If it starts to make the famous sewing machine sounds i would JUMP ON IT ASAP and repair, trust me i had a tensioner guide failure and the timing chain jumped causing bent valves and dents in the pistons on one side of the engine. I never found any plastic in the oil but i did find alot if it stuck to the inside of timing cover... i think a good flush would get it into the oil system though. My car had 6500 hours on it and was a 2000. I would just keep an eye or ear on it. It only took me 2 hours to pull the timing cover off of my car with pnumatic tools so its not too big of a project if you just want to check to make sure nothing is wrong.

214500 miles is the equivilant to that many hours. I assume it idled alot. How did you know how many hours on a 2000? They did not come with idle meters back then.

I will just wait till summer and pull the cover. in the meantime, I will keep driving it.
