Okay, seriously, why hasn't there been a Chinese-made copy of the 5.4 Hardballr made yet?

I know, I hate the idea of counterfeit parts as much as anyone else, but if the makers of the Hardballr were just going to make a few of those intakes to tease us with, then stop making them entirely, someone else ought to step up, and I'd buy their product.

Hell, the hardest part of doing my swap was getting everything to fit right with the damn adapter plates, and even then, it's still an inferior setup, as far as fit, flow, and reliability go (I've got more potential leak points).

At the very least, the guys from HPS should sell/lease their patent (they DO have a patent, right?) to someone else and make some money off of it, because I can guarantee you they aren't making jack-sh*t off of it right now.

strait from hps face book page

Quote:
To anyone interested in taking over HPS Intakes: You don't need a foundry for this venture. The guys that made my tooling have a foundry they use that makes small orders like what I needed. I would order 20 pieces or more at a time to fill the orders. I would receive the raw castings shipped to me and have them machined locally to insure quality. They maintain all the tooling, place my order with the foundry and ship the castings to me. It works out great. Any tooling problems are handled, any manifolds that are cast wrong are guaranteed, replaced at no cost, (I've never had any bad ones) So if you want to get in the biz I'll set you up with my guys, sell you the tooling and all the rights for $10K. It's a smoking deal. Over $50K invested. You'll get the 4.6 and 5.4 tooling. You'll have no problem recouping your investment after the first order of 20 is sold.

I thought I saw in this thread that someone had cut a Typhoon in half & welded it back together? The more I think about it, the more I will probably just use a F150 intake & install a cowl hood. I can live with the hood. What I can’t live with is complicating the crap outtA something simple

The only intake you can cut in half is the victor jr because it is symmetrical.

I did it on my 5.4 after selling my hardballrs ( big big mistake) and I didn't like the power band so I found another hardballrs $$$$ last year and jumped on it.

The down side of the truck intake is it's power band wich will be limited because of the runners lenght that are very long and some intakes do have a plenum divider actuated with an electric motor to provide even more bottom end.

Doesn't the Boss 302 intake fit one of the 5.4L? I can't remember if it's 2V or 4V.

New guy here so I'm not 100% on it, but I'm fairly certain the 2014- Coyote/Boss 302 intakes fit the Navigator 5.4 4v heads with adapters, of which I think only MMR make right now.

Just thought I should explain why I noted 2014- only Coyote manifolds for those curious;apparently the 2015+ manifolds and GT350 manifolds are constructed with Charge Motion Control Plates, similiar to the old IMRC setup.

Sorry about that. I had confused the Victor Jr for the Typhoon. As much as the truck intake isn’t a real power added. I’m probably gonna use a hardballer or truck intake. We’ll see. I have a guy who has built sheet metal carb intakes for me. I’ll see what he says about a custom or modding a Vic Jr. When I asked my buddy Frank who is a Ford racer about making power with a modular engine he told me to take everything I know about building power with Chevys & throw it in the trash! Hah!!!

What about this? Intake is still on the driver side, 2v engine? Seems issue would be hood clearance, but could be used on a stock 5.4

I still think the pulley will stick out of the hood

In retrospect...that was kind of a brain fart. Considering all the work it would take to put a supercharged, intercooled motor into 2002 Grand Marquis, the LEAST thing I would need to worry about is which side my airbox mounts on. {cricket, cricket, cricket}

🙄

Still though, aside from using a stock 5.4 intake with adapter plates, any intake I would use would need a cowl hood. And if such is the case, a 5.4 Lightning style setup may be ideal. I used to own a 2002 Lightning. My cousin bought it new & in Feb 07 he sold it to me to take over the last 14 payments. I saved about $6,000 buying it from him & he was renting a house from me at the time, so I didn’t even have to take a loan out, or dig into my pockets. I had sold off my Superbike program a few years earlier & had some cash I wanted to spend so my ex wife didn’t blow it. Didn’t matter anyway, cuz the Lightning became a gift to her as “try to save the marriage gift” & she took it when we split. I heard her next husband used it for a trade in on a Hemi Dodge Ram a few years later. He’s a dumb as a sack of hammers & couldn’t possibly have the intelligence to understand the value of a collectible vehicle. Nothing hurt more though as when in year 2000, my GMC Scyclone was stolen out of my driveway by local teenagers who took it for a joyride 😡
