On my 2003 P71, after idling for a few minutes, white smoke starts to appear out of both tail pipes. Any idea on what might be the cause of this and how I can fix it?

how much? could be condensation burning off...or coolant burning off.

There's not much, just after sitting for a while it starts to come out.

clogged open fuel injector. had it on mine before. raw gas being burned. either high pressure cleaning or replace one side or one at a time to find it. normally carbon stuck in tip keeping it open.

could just be steam or condensation, does it go away after the car has warmed up for a bit?

what about the valve seals?

valve seals would be blueish white smoke. and condesation would work if it was 20 to 30 degrees outside...though its middle of june...I guess it could get that cold to do that? maybe.....?

Contrary to Al Gore, it's been pretty cold up north lately. Does the smoke go away after the engine warms up? If it does, it's just condensation. Also, smoke tends to linger in the air and blow away, while condensation steam disipates into the air before it blows away.

agree if it happens when you first start the car it is condensation that has built up inside the mufflers while sitting.

Contrary to popular belief you can still get condensation in the mufflers even in the summer.

Have someone or yourself stand behind the car next time when you start it. Smell the exhaust if it is water or condensation burning then you wont smell anything. If it is coolant it will have a sweet smell to it, if it is oil well you should know what burning oil smells like.

There is no smoke when i start the car, it just starts to smoke after sitting for 5 or so minutes.

Give it a couple a revs, does it blow out more smoke or does it stop once revved

What happens to it once it comes out of the tailpipe? Does it disappear within a few feet of the pipe, or does it stay visible as it drifts away from the car?

its probly just condensation. thats all, it happens when all cars idle for extended times, then youll notice if you have someone behind the car in park and rev it water will shoot out...

sounds like coolant leaking and getting burnt. and like 98VicP71 said it would be a sweet smell if you are burning coolant
