Looking at RockAuto there are 2 different mufflers available for the dual exhaust system...the "Quiet Flow" and the "Sound FX" models. What is the difference? Do both have the hangers welded on as they are advertised as stock replacements?

Anyone know off the top of their head the size of the bolts at the cat/h-pipe flanges?

Also, on a NPI motor CVLX is it really even worth it to step up to the dual exhaust? I mean, there are MANY higher performing/HP cars that have single exhaust systems.

I went with a junk yard PI system on my single exhaust 95 LX. It made a differance in better gas mileage and I picked up a few ponies. Still way to quite for me.

So the Sound FX is more or less a Dynomax muffler welded up for direct fit. If those were available in 2006 I would have gotten those instead of the quiet flows.

So the SoundFX is basically a "turbo II" style muffler and it looks like the Quiet Flow model is the only one with the hangers welded on and of course the SoundFX model is what I would be wanting...

I just emailed RockAuto to see if they can tell me if the SoundFX mufflers have the hangers on them.

Since I have gone to the extent of doing the PI swap (as well as many other things) on the '98 Stang and the CV is my DD I won't bother doing the PI swap on it. Is it still worth doing the dual exhaust swap?

Good idea, in 2006 they listed a Dynomax option but had a notation Modificaion required etc..

It LOOKS like a direct fit but worth finding out for sure.

This does show that they are making direct fit sound FX for certian applications. They should have no problem making a Crown Vic version since they have the jigs etc for the quiet flow version.

Kewall! I wonder how they sound since they aren't of "flowmaster" type. In my experience on various other V8 cars I've found flowmaster type mufflers to be quite free flowing and good sounding but louder and quieter at different points in the RPM range which I didn't like as much. The turbo type is a little quieter but much more consistent in sound throughout RPM.

Am I off base?

Nope, that has been my experience. I have the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back with a cat-less h-pipe on the Mustang and it is loud. My CJ5 with the 304 V8 has dual Turbo II mufflers and it is nice and mellow but you can hear it.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the 2 hanger brackets and the corresponding bolts for the drivers side. I will need those and a local junk yard does not have them.

*EDIT* Disregard that question....I remembered the exhaust parts list in the P71 section.

Yeah all that stuff fits in the Vic, I have my parts shipped to work too.

And big ++ on getting the hangers new, they are cheap and come with the new rubber hangers. I did not save much$$ pulling it out of a P-71 on my back. The bolts were a pia to get at with the bent pipes in the way.

So if you order this stuff from Rockauto you can bolt all this in yourself? A better question would be is all this "slip fit" and not in need of welding?

Yes, it is strictly a bolt-on affair. Flanges bolt on at the converter pipe/h-pipe joint. The h-pipe/front of muffler joint and tail pipes/back of the muffler are a slip-fit and clamped. I got all the exhaust parts from the h-pipe back (both sides), both gaskets, 4 clamps and 4 new nuts/bolts for the h-pipe for $236 and the shipping was $90. Our discount took just under $12 off the parts.

I bought the entire Walker kit downstream of the H-pipe in May of 2007 (mufflers and tailpipes). I didn't expect it to last long, and after 5 years the left muffler inlet cracked apart from corrosion.

The original factory H-pipe still looks ok, and the stainless clamps I used are still bright and shiny.

I ordered the Walker SoundFX mufflers and Walker tailpipes to see if I can get another 5 years out of the setup.

From what I can tell, the SoundFX mufflers look a lot like the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers which I had on the Thunderbird.

For awhile I was wondering why my Crown Vic started to sound like a Mustang during a cold start... then I noticed the muffler not attached to the h-pipe!

I had Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers, but the Crown Vic blew out all of the innards in those mufflers (it was just an empty box after a few years).

There is a guy here that owns a muffler shop that everyone uses. He's a biker with the name "Ramjet" & very reasonable prices. I bought the 04 Ultimate in 2008 with 18k on it & had him put his "no name brand" of 18" glasspacks on it. I now have 90k & they ares still in good shape. A friend of mine & I had Ramjet take the "H" pipe out of both cars. (His is a 03 Town Car) Both cars now have a sound similar of the old flat head Fords. With a light foot they have a good sound but stick your foot in it & they have a deeper, more distinct sound. After living in New Jersey over 30+ years+ & dealing with New Jerseys inspection it's a simple matter here. Lights work, wipers work , turn signals work, OK you passed, all for the sum of $12.00.

Very happy with the MKS. Finally got used to all the bells & whistles. Better handling, good MPG (25-27 highway) Better stopping distance & much faster acceleration.

NJ inspection was a lot more difficult within the past 10 years. They checked my brakes to see if they locked up properly, sniffed the exhaust manifolds, etc... and failed my T-bird because a sidemarker was cracked (and had been cracked for nearly 20 years passing NJ inspections during that time).

I looked at custom stainless installs and they all were in the $700-$800 range.

I used the cheaper Sound FX muffler on my wifes last Mountaineer. It was a direct fit piece, no modifing necessay. It was however not well built and the inlet and outlets both necked down inside the muffler to less than 2". It did not look like it would flow well at all. If I wasn't selling the truck I would have sent it back and went with the more expensive choice or looked into a custom system.

I got the SoundFX installed. It is noticeably louder than the QuietFlow but I can hear it sort of rumbling at idle. It is not as loud as the Ultra Flo mufflers, but I could tell the mufflers were lighter and slightly louder.
