I believe the wiper box clearing problems is with the 5.4 dohc engine. I have not heard of this clearance problem with a 2v, but the trimming you talk about it just trimming a bit off the underside of the box

I agree the HVAC chamber could be a problem, especially if swapping the 5.4 DOHC. The brake booster might need to be downsized as well to clear the DOHC heads. At least that's what I'm looking at.

I don't know about the wiper cowl clearance but i wish my wipers were lower. Sounds like a conflict of interest with a bigger engine, but i dont like being able to see them in the park position from inside the vehicle. Those things are going to mess up my aero-drag, man.

I bought a a '99 Lightning engine and am seriously considering swapping my Romeo heads with Comp cams and headers over to this engine. The Windsor heads have a been know to blow out spark plugs. Any reason I can't?

the spark plug threads for romeo and windsor heads are 100% the same. it would be a waste of time to swap the heads for that reason.

what i would do is timesert each plug whole and never worry about it again. you would have to probably run a cooler plug to compensate though. maybe not.

The threads are different on some Windsor heads. You notice this when full thread plugs are used like NGK. Some Windsors allow the plug threads to protrude into the chamber, I have seen about half a dozen like this now. Here is an article on it:

Windsor Spark Plug Issues

Here is an article showing some issues with Timesert installation. Timeserts do not change the plug heat range or heat conduction.

I wanted to use my COMP 270ah cams but I may be better off to sell the engine and run the Lightning engine stock. Thanks for the links.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for the lightning engine? I'm trying to decide between that and a 3 or 4 valve and puting my own forced induction on... eventually.

Did you even read my First post? The 4.6 and 5.4 heads are the same. The reason why you need the adapter plates is because the 5.4 is wider than the 4.6 so the 4.6 intake isn't wide enough.
