'92 shouldn't have a limiter. At least the '92 MGM that I had didn't have one. I think the first year for the limiters is when OBD II started in '95.

When you hit the limiter, it kicks the throttle out from under you. In other words, it would be just like removing your foot from the pedal. I have a '94; at 107, you hit the governor. The car drops to about 103 before you are able to stop slowing down. I got her to 109 once. I was going 100, and floored it. The engine roared and she started accelerating. At 107, it kicked out the throttle, but the drive train still had enough inertia to get her to 109 before she slowed down.

For the record, I did this on the I-5 in the Central Valley of CA. There were no cars close, nor people or buildings. There were cops ahead, I was sure, but luckily a silver Benz convertible had blown by at 120+ with no signs of slowing down. I passed him about 15 minutes later, pulled over on the sign of the road, a Crown Vic behind him.

Is a speed limiter not the same as a governor? Kind of curious what these cars would hit non governed.

Dmitriy,

The vehicles as produced by Ford for the general public have a speed limiter (usually) because the aerodynamics of the car cause it to lift off the ground north of 120 MPH. This makes the vehicle unstable above those speeds because of lack of tire contact. You can remove the governors in the vehicles in older vehicles or if the vehicles are computer controlled the limiter is in the computer of the vehicle. A computer designed limiter requires tuning software to remove. There are no other options here.

a governor is a mechanical speed limiter. Not used on ODB II vehicles.

You have an AOD 92 so you need an early AOD PCM from a Police model. Perhaps one of the boys here can locate you one, I can check in my junkyard travels.

By the way the 92 Police models have the P-72 VIN code as they are fleet models with the Police Package. Starting in 93 the seperate P-71 VIN coded model was introduced.
