Now she's holding steady during idle at 191. Heater working and a small hint of a coolan smell. But seems better today. This is an intermetent problem.

To properly fill with coolant you need to fill through the thermostat housing or through the heater hose. If you just pour into the overflow you will end up with a large air bubble inside the engine.

From my experiance, water pumps usually don't stop circulating the coolant, but start leaking or making noise. But I don't know enough about how the ones in these cars fail.
I don't know if it works on this car, but I know on others I found that running the engine with the raad. cap off helped get the air out the system. I just ran and made sure I had water up to the top lip of the radiator. Also keep the heater on. I drained any excess after bleeding.

If you hear rushing water, there's air in the system. Bleed it again to get the air out.

Ok found a small leak where I applied the silicone for the thermostat housing. So I guess I was getting air from there. All is sealed up but again I didn't fill the system correctly and air is still inthere as I hear the rushing water sound again this am. Can someone please go through the exact steps required please. And I do not want to take the thermostat housing off again so any way to properly do with it still intact thanks.

Can anyone please advise me on this...
Im thinking about chaning the thermostat again, maybe I got a bad one (luck of the draw) and adding the coolant as stated previously. They way i last did it, was turn heater on full blast and add to the degas tank, wait for a few cycles (t-stat open) to let any air out and keep adding coolant until hit the "cold" mark. Then let cool and top of to "cold" mark. Didnt over heat once during these cycles, but this am it happened as i said above. Im starting to wonder if something can be freezing? Its getting to low 20's here and my car was covered in a thin ice layer...??? I was worried about a head gasket issue, but i have had head gasket failure before, but it was never intermetent. It was a constant thing. Anyone????

Just fill the coolant system up from the overfill tank, start car with coolant cap off, turn the heat on hold the RPMs up to around 2,000RPMS for a few mins untill the car gets warm, watch the coolant temp gauage, the car will be getting hot even though the temp gauage stays at the bottom, this is due to air trapped in the cooling system and the coolant temp sensor not being in the coolant, leave the cap off the whole time your doing this, this should get the air out of the coolant system, let the car continue running with cap off for another 5-10mins, keep checking the level of the coolant, it should suck down some coolant so you may have to keep adding some as it works itself around in the system. Once you feel that the car wont take any more coolant and seems like its at the correct level, throw the coolant overflow cap on and take the car for a ride, by now it should be air free.

Pull the heater core hose off of the heater core. Pull the one that is coming from the intake manifold. This will allow air to purge from the engine better. It's best with that off AND the t-stat and t-stat housing removed as well. I fill up by pouring the coolant into the heater core hose until it is nearly to the top of the t-stat housing. Then I reattach the heater core hose and the t-stat/housing and then run the engine with degas tank opened. The coolant will initially puff up when the t-stat opens up and some coolant may spill out. Afterwards it will suck it all down and the degas tank will be nearly empty. Fill to the cold fill line, close the degas tank, and drive it. When you come back and it cools down, fill to cold fill line again if necessary.
Also, it may be better to do this while the car is inclined, such as on a driveway with the nose lifted. This will help push air towards the degas tank.

If you have heat and the car doesnt overheat quickly then its not a headgasket.
I think you just have trapped air in the system.
Do you have heat?

Also make sure that you fan comes on, if you fan isnt working correctly than you can over heat the motor and cause a blow head gasket.

ok going to try to re-fill coolant to ensure no air in system. Also if i come to decide to change water pump how many of you have or recomend electric water pumps such as http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MEZ-WP346 ?
