I am working on doing all my window switches and had an extra defrost button sitting around so figured I'd do that one too.
1 - pop out the switch cover

original green illumination LED

Original 'defrost on' amber LED

2 - remove plastic cover(I guess you could just removed this and leave the switch cover in place but this is how I did it)

3 - remove old LEDs(I used solder wick to remove the old solder from the LED so then it could just be pulled off the board)

4 - install new SMD LED's(I used blue 1206)

5 - Test
Illumination

'Defrost on'

Both on

6 - Replace cover, first pic taken with both lights on and using a flash

(no flash)

Just the illumination light on

When I get the switch put back in tomorrow morning, I'll take pics of it in place.

I'd like to be able to do that. Blue would go good in mine. If only I could figure out why mine isn't turning on:(

I've got all of mine switched to blue. Took me about a week workin a couple hours a night. Now I have the floor boards lit up with blue leds. The stock interior lights are switched to blue led's. Now im workin on the trunk and engine lights, puttin the blue LED's in there too. I've also got to do the strobe kits and find a way to change the color of the interior panels. Not sure how, thought about maybe that spray paint made for plastic and a sealant.

Actually using spray paint works pretty good. I painted some of my trim black to match the outside of the car.

I finished the switches today with the lock/unlock and master window switches.

Stock green lighting

All soldered in

All lit blue

Checked the lights half-way through and got this, no clue where the one red came from since they were all in one blister pack

A diagram in case anyone else wants to do this

x2. As soon as I figure this one out I'm going to order them up. What about your Temp controls? How did you do those?

I got either 50 or 100 1206 SMD LED's from China on ebay for around $20, I think. I did the temp controls but that didn't require and SMD's, just put in 194 LED's.

I also took out the little plastic piece on the knob and painted it with translucent blue paint.

Did you get the clear LEDS? The color looks a little spotty. Frosted LEDS would be a good choice to disperse light a little more evenly. Looks good though!

They are real cheap blue LEDs in the HVAC control, I may put a strip of blue SMD in there at some point to even the color out.
