i have a 2004 CVPI headlight switch laying around. i like it more than the 2000 switch i currently have. i know since the dimmer is different, it may net be a direct swap. but is it possible to wire the 2004 assembly it in to my 2000?

I was actually considering doing the same thing in reverse during the course of my auto-lamp upgrade. The newer version switch I bought on fleabay, the knob is kinda grayish, certainly a lighter more faded black than the switch body, which annoys me more than is reasonable.

Is it just me or did I miss the part where you can push the knob in for cabin lights? I have two 2003+ switches and they both don't press in. My roommates 04 GMQ's doesn't press in either?

...and the autolamps delayed off time not an easy turn of the knob. I know the '06 is owner programable, it's not hard but is a PITA to do.

i dont think so dude, i was just looking at my switches and the signal from the digital to anilog would be different, unless the wires are the same, but it makes me wonder if the lcm is different

No, you can't use an '03- switch in a '95-'02

While the actual headlamp switch could be wired in without much difficulty, the dimmer is not at all compatible.

2003+ use a rheostat for the panel dimming. Not in the traditional manner (controlling output voltage), rather, resistance to ground to the LCM. The LCM uses this resistance to ground input to determine the panel dimming.

The '95-'02 system, however, simply uses independent panel dim UP and panel dim DOWN inputs to the LCM from the momentary dimming rocker switch

The dome lamp function of 03+ switches was made part of dimmer switch, much like older cars (turn all the way, past the stop, to turn on the interior lamps)
