So my wife takes my car while I do an oil change on hers. She comes back with it, I clean up the garage look outside at my car and notice the spotlight is turned on (why I have it, who knows - it was there) Anyways, I go to shut it off to find it melted the lens, the windshield(cracked it too) and the rubber trim. She's left in her car by now, so I call to find out WTF happened, she says "oops, I must have bumped the switch, I dont even know how to turn it on" Well, YOU MELTED MY DAMN WINDSHIELD! I've driven the car for 2 and a half years and never came close to bumping the switch on! Rant over...

How do you MISS the fact the spotlight is on? The GLASS spotlights on my 2000 CVPI are H7680X, rated 230,000 candlepower. You can tell when they are on!

BTW, if the housing is the same, you might consider replacing with the glass sealed beam. I know they were glas for only a few years.

Now, cracking the windshield seems strange... Transparent glass and plastic shouldn't have absorbed that much heat. Maybe the pillar got hot and there was thermal transfer. Well, hopefully you can get one of those "Chipmaster" rock chip places to stabilize the windshield before the crack runs. Good Luck.

Years back, during HS, we used to have cruise night all along Main St, in front of Salinas High in CA. Some friends were cruising too in a Triumph TR8 and later that night would ask my buddy and I if they knew why their car felt so hard to drive. They also smelled something "burning" but thought it was just because of the local "stoners" that hung out.

Come to find out that SHE and HER friend were driving the whole night with the PARKING BRAKE ON!!!!

BTW, She was BLONDE! Go figure

Question: "How do you MISS the fact the spotlight is on?"

Answer: One word, "She." End of story.

Yes, she is blonde.

The lamination between the glass started to melt and cracked the glass.

Wow! does the spotlight actually hit the windshield when its in the down position? Mine dont, and I like it that way. I do not see how in the hell she bumped the switch.

Tim, ya it lays right against the trim. Maybe an adjustment - or just an unplugging is in order. The light has come in handy a few times, but not worth the aggravation when something like this happens. What sucks is that windshield is only a few months old.

Yea, I'd say it needs adjusted. The spotlight should never rest on the windshield itself.
