sorry about the noob comments, today was the 1st oil change w/ my 2005 LX. holy crap, this is NICE compared to my '93 & '98. first note was the oil filter "gutter" that channels the oil right into the pan & (wow) away from my eyes. who woulda thunk it ? i had to take it off (nice clips) & clean it. again blown away the fuggin' thing has a CALENDAR to track changes ? is the world coming to an end ? this is all TOO logical...bahahaha ! then i remove the oil pan nut (of course, last oil-jockey tightened it w/ a impact wrench!) & amazed the oil comes out in a focused flow, pretty fast. some valley or baffles in the pan to get it out more efficiently ? again, NICE. anyhow, thought i would share. which engineer do i thank for these minor miracles ? could it be the late, great Ned Nuss (R.I.P) ? OIL PAN 'GUTTER' W/ CALENDAR:

I've changed the oil on my buddy's '05, his doesn't have the oil gutter thingy, so oil just spills on the steering rack. BUT, not having to work around the steering linkages to reach the filter like my '96 was nice.

I've never seen one on the car. I thought they were an additional option but then I've also heard that they came with the cars standard after a certain year. But probably like the engine covers, they are either tossed or stolen for the vehicles still in service.

The gutter Ford calls a "shield"-#5W1Z-6N634-AA. Looks like a handy accessory if it's not in the way of something else.

The shield is described as an "oil cooler shield" in the Ford parts catalog but is clearly an accessory of the oil filter in the catalog illustration.

Is the shield something that stays under the car, or is used to perform the oil change and remove after?

it stays on under the car w/ these 2 clips built into the underside of the thing. engineered to clip onto 2 of the stock piping by the oil filter threads. i think oil pump or AC lines. i will try for another pic or two to show clips & installed when car is back from the body shop.

Thanks! I imagine it can be bought and added to a P71.
