Hi Quickster:

An axle code of X5 for your CV does indicate the 3.27 trac-lok rear end.

For 06 and newer CVPI's:

Z5 = 3.27 open carrier
X5 = 3.27 Limited slip
C6 = 3.55 Limited slip

The early box style Crown Vics had a 3.27 gear in the 5.0 liter cars, and a tall 2.73 gear for the 5.8 liter ones.

The 3.55 was actually standard for the P71 package in 1998, but they went back to the 3.27 for 1999 after experiencing drive shaft vibration issues which caused them to limit the 3.55 cars at 119mph.

The 3.27 cars will do 129mph.

Hope this helps.....................Don

You can't always trust the door tag. My 98 had the x5 code which should have been a 3:27 locker but it was a 3:27 open.

Here's all I can see on the diff. tag. I outlined what I see. Looks like 3.27, I don't see a "L" in there, but that doesn't mean it didn't exist.
