Hmmm, well that's only for the 2V port correct? Are the exhaust ports different on the 4V, aside from the added width causing space issues.

Just spoke to Bob at HPS, there are a few intakes left at $695, but next batch the price is going up to $795, so if you are sitting on the fence about getting one of these..........

I have a question pertaining specifically to those who have installed Lightning 5.4's, did you use the 4R70W from the Vic or the 4R100 from the truck?

If your looking for a large comfortable ride with that Retro Feel without the Retro looks, then the Panther chassis is your Car. It's the best Modern car from 1979 you can buy.

I have been looking through the threads and want to make sure I got my parts list correct:

5.4v SOHC Engine
FRPP shorties
Custom Exhaust (because of width of the 5.4 is 27")
HPS intake to fit under stock p71 hood.

Get the car running....should run ok with stock computer (get tuned for the best efficency)

---get in seat, drive and enjoy---

Am I missing anything?
My car is 99 p71 with 170k and was thinking of going to the 5.4 as opposed to the PI 4.6. Greater torque...and so on.

You should have posted in the 5.4 Thread. But that's ok.

You have a 99. So if you use a PI 5.4 your going to need a Tune right away. NPI and PI tunes don't like each other.

The Custom Exhaust is if you want long tube headers. The stock Exhaust system works, you may have to widen the H-pipe but that's it's.

Your missing the 8-bolt flex plate for the transmission. The 4.6 uses a 6 bolt, 5.4's have an 8-bolt. Because the 5.4 and the 4.6 are 90% the same get a 8 bolt flex plate from an Automatic Cobra. Or you can get one from another Modular power Ford that uses an 8-bolt Flex plate, Just be sure it's for the 4R70W Transmission.

The stock Throttle is ok as a stand in, but you should really upgrade to a 75mm Throttle body as the 5.4 Loves Air. You don't have to get one but it's a good performance upgrade that doesn't cost much.

Thank you. This is the first I have considered upgrading the engine and will pay more attention to posting in the right area. smile

Based on the list that was posted in the 5.4 Faq's, is there any specific year ford truck I should look for that will have the right flexplate?

I live in Savannah Ga, so any tuning would have to be mailed to the company. Should I try to run the car before the tune to see if it even runs? haha. I am not going extreme with the build just giving the fun car a more healthy heart. I will read through the tuning ones.

Thanks!

If I remember right the trucks use a Different Transmission. You need to get an 8-bolt flex plate from a vehicle with a 4R70W Transmission. The Mustangs come to mind but you have to check them out. Some came with 6 other with 8. The Cobra's had 8.

Is it ridiculously difficult to shoehorn the navi 5.4 in a pre-03? Is the difference in power/performance worth it?
