Here's my 2005 getting painted. Because of the nature of the paint/primer issue I'm going back to bare metal.

Here it is, almost all stripped. Still need a lot of sanding but it's progressing.

Thoughts? comments? Questions? Feel free to ask

Why not just rent a media blaster or use aircraft paint remover? Going to take a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease.

They didn't have any paint stripping disks left when I bought the mats. So I went with what I had smile

The aircraft stripper is really good, but needs more than 1 application to get the primer off.

I may try the disk and see how good they work.

I was thinking more along the lines of liquid paint stripper.

Not the last time i tried it.

I tried to strip some front door trim with it and only with repeated applications was able to get some of the paint off.

I've been thinking about going for broke and using apparently stronger then aircraft stripper paint stipper and hope it doesn't destroy the plastic.

I thought this stuff was Aircraft Stripper but maybe not. I use this and it is no joke.

That is what I used and that is the results I got.

Aircraft crap just smeared the paint around.

Dang! How long did it take to get it that far? I really need to do something like that to mine as well. I hate the peeling paint and I fixed one scetion but it is spreading in other areas and I just need to get it all done at once instead of doing little patch work. That looks pretty far along do you have a color in mind?

The aircraft stripper I'm using is US chemical aircraft paint remover. It works very good. IT WILL DAMAGE plastic. So you dont use it on the bumpers and remove as much trims as possible.

Nomad8326: Ive tried a bumper stripper made by SEM, it smeared the paint like you said. It needed a light sanding of the clearcoat to really work.

MyP71Vic: Yeah, I tried fixing a spot and the paint would crawl away from the repaint area. There is no other real fix than this.

It probably took 10 hours between chem strip and sanding. But if you took 2 gallon of the exat stripper I used, you could strip it in an afternoon provided you have removed the trims, lights and etc prior. Use da and 180 on the bumpers, they don't peel like the body so you can paint over them

That's about ready to go. Sand it smooth so less primer can be used. You will find that the new primer will adhere to the old primer very well. The bumpers don't peel as bad due to the extra flex agent they add to the paint. They also paint the bumpers differently than they do the cars.
