I think, and you probably do too, the reason you never saw an increase in performance with the cams and intake, is because of the exhaust and tune.

The exhaust IS the restrictive factor in the equation no doubt on this.
we all know that long tube header and cams do wonders on a 4.6
and I cant wait to see it on a 5.4
I think it,s going to open eyes laugh

I will brake my own personal record and possibly set another one localy.
With the numbers I will be pushings and the way I drive the car at the track I dont want to push my luck and brake things in Detroit..... it alredy happened once and it ruined my evening and the day after.
Yet I have been extremely been lucky regarding this

that being said I will post it in the thread regarding the track but the track where we are going is under the NHRA regulation and any driver that runs below 13.99 must wear a helmet.

So I will do one 13's run without slicks before getting kicked out of the track laugh

The 4.6 headers are 1 5/8". Probably that as there isn't room for much more.

As many of you know long tube header and cams can really wake up a mod motor. There are many sucessfull built with 4.6 but none yet with a 5.4 Motor into a crown vic.

So after droping a 5.4 engine 2 years ago and looking to improve it,s effiency and performance, the long tube header were obviously next on the list.

There are curently only two compagny that makes long tube herder: Stainless Works and Kooks.
Stainless works is offering header for the 92 to 2011 crown vic as well as cat backs while Kooks only offer header for the 03+ cars.

So few month ago I went ahead and contacted Jason at Stainless works regarding a potential set of header for my car.
I had to options:
1-drive the car to their shop and get a set custom made.
2-Get a regular set of header for the 4.6 and modify it to fit the 5.4.

I went with option #2
Having done some calculation I knew it could be possible.
(Some measurements are off and been corrected since)

So few month ago I ordered a set of high quality header From Stainless Works for the 03+ 4.6 2v crown vic.
They were made out of production because I wanted to have mine without the E.G.R tube installed and the flanges only tack welded so I can easily modify them later down the road.

So now the header are in laugh
I installed them to see how they fit as is .

Driver side has no cleareance issue other than the steering shaft.

Passenger side is toutching the frame (as expected)

So as far as it goes i'm really satisfied abouth what I see as it,s what I expected.
Now the plan is to shorten the primary tubes directly at the flange to gain cleareance for the steering shaft and frame.

The rest of the exhaust system will be here in a week or so as I ordered a complete cat back system from Stainles Works.
the only thing that will have to be done localy is the instalation of the cats to match the new position of the collectors .

To Mods: I know I have another thread regarding headers for the 5.4 but this one is abouth the instalation and not speculation like the other one so please do not merge.
thank you
