good point joe. to have the ideal setup, you should match the gearing to engine. right now my 3.55s are just about ideal. once i go to a pi intake with my other mods, something more aggressive(though slightly) will be optimal. although, i would love to feel what those 4.30s are like, lol.

If i do a PI intake with a new plenum and 70mm throttle body with a short ram intake fed by a CAI Ram Air plus shorty headers and a custom exhaustwould my stock 3.55 Gears be fine? I'm going to switch to posi if that makes a difference. Thanks

you need a drive shaft loops most def. I would also do the forced lube mod and try and find you a MMC driveshaft.

Can you please explain what you mean here? in layman's terms, you need more hp to be truly beneficial in the 1/4 mile. steeper gears help with tq multiplication. once the gearing is 'used' you need the hp to take over. you do not have enough.

your 3.55s will be fine. definitely get the trac-lok(posi), you will love it. Thanks. Is the trac-lok hard to install? you need a drive shaft loops most def. I would also do the forced lube mod and try and find you a MMC driveshaft. and i believe a already hav a mmc driveshaft due to the fact i own a CVPI.

Track lock install requires the entire rear end to be torn down and rebuilt from what I understand so it would be something you may want a shop to install. Don't quote me on that but that is what I understand anyway.

It is difficult if you don't have experience on rear ends....I've been thinking bout doing it myself but this is one area I don't have any "wrench time on". So the Vic will go to the shop when I find 3.55's and a job:) Already have the trac-loc in the basement thanks to Buck

seeing that you have a 00 p71, you have the ammc ds. unless someone swapped it out, i doubt that.

you can't say he is garanteed to have the MMC driveshaft as it was an option just like the 3:55 gears. I have seen some 99's and 00s with the normal aluminum drive shaft and 3:27 gears.
There is a thread on the board already about the MMC shaft and how to determine if you have it.
I believe it is a green stripe or something on it. I can't remember off the top of my head though.
