So, that Mercedes S class I lost by $50 last week may have been a sign of better things to come.

After owning a Mercedes and Lincoln before getting another Vic, I was spoiled with the luxury amenities of... well, anything other than a P71. My P71 has some issues such as the paint peeling horribly, front fenders and bumper don't line up exactly like they should thanks to TWO vehicle vs. animal accidents, and noticeable bondo where I covered the holes on the roof and trunk. Not the epitome of clean, to say the least.

Now, this 03 LX-Sport that I won has 199k miles and a bad rear end. Doesn't look like anyone's ever cleaned the wheels on the car, let alone wash and wax the thing. Kind of makes me nervous about the amount of maintenance (or lack thereof) done to the motor and transmission. I was also kind of weary since the trunk panel was replaced with one from a regular LX as was the grille. As far as the sagging rear end, the RAS was disconnected to tow the car.

My plan is to swap the whole rear axle assembly with my 06, along with the air box, and part out my 06. Depending on the condition of the 03's motor, I may keep my motor too. As far as the tranny, worst case scenario is it wasn't maintained and craps out on me 5,000 miles from now and I do a manual swap.

Anyway, I may be crazy for trading my 06 with 122k miles for an 03 with almost 200k, but something about the car begs for someone to show the damn thing some love. According to the AutoCheck report, it has been a FL car it's whole life. $1,025.00 seems like a decent buy to me. At least I'll be able to have a stock keyless entry system, 'leather', and electronic EATC now. Thoughts?

It is a thousand dollar car that needs work. If you have the time and skills to put into it then it looks like a great deal. The clearcoat issue would have been a deal killer for me, as well as the grille and decklid changes make you question why they would do that (didn't like body color parts?), but otherwise looks like with a little work could be a nice car.

I would much rather fix up a Sport than a P71. Good luck on the work. And it shouldn't be too expensive to bring it back to original condition.

Regarding the clear coat issue, apparently it is only limited to the roof. The way I see it is: clear coat coming off is much easier fixed than the actual paint separating from the body like my P71 is doing. I feel I could do a decent job repainting the roof myself. The grille, well... I would do a honeycomb swap anyways, so that's easily overlooked. Rear fascia? Bah, I'll get a couple cans of matching paint online and go to town on that and the grille.

Any way I can verify 100% this is a LX-Sport (before I actually see the car tomorrow)? I will look for the true dual exhaust when I pick the car up. I notice the center console/ shifter, but don't recall LX Sports coming with the chrome bumper trim. Either someone went through the trouble of doing a center console swap into a regular LX, or tried to make a Sport look like a regular LX.

Thanks mang. I've gotten tired of working on my P71, so it will be nice to take on a project.

Judging by the color, the bumper trim, and the chrome trim handles -> this sport was ordered with these options as *to my knowledge* CVLXS were offered outside of the main colors in this trim. So, I don't believe the owner switched parts. I'd do an Oasis and see what the car came with to know for sure, or maybe gDMJoe will chime in

Also -> P74 in the VIN, so should be a true sport

I've seen a Sport or two with the chrome as well. I didn't know if it was an option or something that they did for a particular model year.

I say its a good deal. Worse comes to worse you swap motor, tranny, and rear end and have a good car. The body stuff is not a big deal. The dent should come out easily and having new clear shot would not be a big deal.

Do like I am doing with my 94 to 88. Take the parts you want, think you can swap over or modify to fit and part the rest out.

A driver's side spotlight assembly was optional on Standard and Standard Long-Wheelbase models, while a monochromatic paint job is optional on Sport, LX and LX Sport models. Choice of colors on monochromatic paint jobs include Dark Toreador Red, Silver Birch, Tungsten and Black. A Mercury Marauder rear spoiler was standard equipment on Sport and LX Sport models, optional on the LX and Standard trim. LX and LX Sport models also come with power 8-way driver and front passenger seats.

The wikipedia page for Crownvic's had the above nugget of info, listing monochrome paint as an option which may account for the trim on the car you bought. I don't know how credible the info is though as it also says that the marauder spoiler was standard equipment (not true) on Sport (no such trim) and LX Sport models

Factory 3.27's and 17's, sounds like a legit sport to me.

Also note the roof was repainted when the car was brand new, probably explains the clear coat being extra [censored].

Pantera for the save! Does italso reveal the OE of the car when mfg'd or purchased?

so seems like roof and door were repainted after delivery to the dealership and probably accounts for the failed clearcoat. Is there a way to pursue that as it was a respray by Ford?

IIRC, Sports didn't get painted door handles as standard until '04, so that explains that.

By OE do you mean what it left with from the factory, IE: a center console? I could actually look that up if needed.

I'm sure it was repainted by a TROPICAL FORD's body shop. Sounds like it was transit damage to me.

For 2003 the monochrome sport paint only was available for Black, Silver, Blue, and Toreador Red.

The Sport can be had in other colors, but they have chrome accents like a normal LX. DTR wasn't available as monochrome till 2004, so that explains that.

If the rear suspension isn't working on the car, I suggest this:
