I need help on how the brake light switch is removed. I have been messing with it and can not figure it out, and I don't want to break it. I know it can't be hard.

My issue is that when I press the brake pedal, the brake lights won't come on, but if I manually engage the brake switch they work just fine.

What am I missing that is causing the switch to not be engaged by the pedal?

I have no idea what model or year this illustration is from, but here's how it works. Just pull the hairpin retainer.

That looks like the switch from the 99-03 model. The 08 is completely different. I assume it basically works the same, but I don't see a pin to pull out like that one. I have to be missing something.

I got a picture like that from the ford dealer for a 2008, but of course the quality is lacking and I cant find it online.

Check youtube for ford brake light switch replacement. Watch out for the butcher videos though, some people have no buisiness touching a car, let alone posting a how (not) to video of it.

Alex.
