Well, I finally got around to installing the carpet I bought from 2006_P71.

Removing the old seats was a giant ass pain. I broke a bolt and I F'd my back up trying to reach under the passenger seat, which is a power seat that isn't hooked up to anything...so you can't move it forward to easily access those seat bolts. Ugh.

Anyway, a few unpleasant surprises beyond my back discomfort:
-A little more rust than I was expecting. The worst area is in the passenger rear footwell, which seems to be a common place for these things to rust. But I can't figure out where it's coming in, so...I sprayed the floor down with rubberized undercoating and I'm gonna hope it does something.
-Pretty sure the previous owner cut the hole in the floor with a can opener.
-Who in the hell installs an aftermarket stereo w/amp & sub but doesn't A) properly loom B) properly route the extra wiring? I took care of that thanks to the extra Painless Powerbraid I had left over from the '62 Chevy wiring job.

Anyway, I snapped a few pics while I was working.

Yes, this is a towel I stuffed under the old floor just to get SOME insulation.

You can see the rust here... frown

Obligatory back seat picture. Note the CVN bottle opener.

I forgot to take a picture of the Dynamat install. Oops. There's Dynamat underneath.

I used a Hurst Indy boot/bezel. Here's the test fit.

The instructions say you're supposed to use sheet metal screws and go right into the floorboard. Since there's no duct work, there's a lot of open space between the floor and the carpet. So I took some 1/4" flat aluminum stock and drilled/tapped holes to match the dimensions of the bezel. The flat stock acts as a nut, and also provides a good bit of reinforcement. The carpet is pretty much sandwiched between the aluminum stock, and the bezel.

The lack of rear duct work means the carpet is a bit lumpy. I'm hoping time will even that out. But overall, it has a much more refined feel inside now...and it's WAY QUIETER.

well done. how long did it take you?

going from vinyl floor to carpet always gives a refined feeling. and that looks like genuine ford carpet too. nice.

It took me 6 hours including a 20-mile round trip back to my house to get a tool my dad didn't have at his house.

And yeah, it's Ford carpet! All the holes lined up perfectly.

Nice job on the carpet install. I bet that makes the car a lot nicer.

Have you driven the Stick Vic much? What kind of fuel economy do you get in it? Isn't it cammed with headers too?

Have to agree, carpet is great noise insulation. I've installed carpet underneath a rubber covering.

Looks good. Almost looks like you have an 8-track player with those CD cases sticking out.

I dont think I would know how to handle one haha. I think the one car I ever saw in person that my grandma owned had one and I had no idea what it was.

I had one in my Cordoba.
They're painfully easy to use...until they start eating the cartridges.

Bridge the driver and passenger tracks together with some welded steel. Wire motors to work in unison. Then have the gap between seats upholstered out.

Fixed.

I was hoping to find a good bench seat meme, but all I could find was this.

Take that for what you will.
