Anyone replace the odometer (mileage) gears in their '90/'91 CV/GM/TC? Mine stopped turning and I am looking for a good source to pick up a new set of gears. Thanks for any input.

I have the same issue where my gears went bad (never fixed it lol), and from what I've read getting to the back of the instrument panel is a real pain but is doable.

As for parts, I just did a quick search on Amazon for replacement gears. They are spendy, but they are Dorman parts which is reliable for our cars. If you aren't willing to cough up the money, I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives.

If you search for them on eBay, they can be had for less than $10. I’ve rebuilt the one I retrofitted into my ‘97 and a police speedometer I sold to another member.

Great thanks guys, I found a great tutorial if anyone is interested. They sell the gears too, however, they're a bit pricey.

I have done this repair on my 91, using eBay-sourced gears. If the gears can be had for less than $40 per pair, that's a newer development (or a much older fact) as they were never that cheap when I needed them.

IMHO, the most annoying part of the process is getting the cluster out of the car, due to the shift indicator and clearance between column and top of dash. The actual repair itself is very simple and the cluster comes apart super easy.

I do agree taking it out of the car stinks. I sourced the Dorman gears on eBay, install wasnt bad at all.
