Hey y'all,

I'm searching and gathering the different exhaust setups that everyone has for their car to find what I like best. If possible, please post what setup you are currently running (headers, cats, piping, mufflers, etc.) and, if able, a video of how it sounds.

I'm currently running a DIY exhaust setup on my 2004 Crown Vic P71. The headers are stock and cats are stock and intact. I'm using the stock H-Pipe but cut down just before the second bridge between the pipes. I replaced the stock mufflers and excess piping with Totalflow 2102 10" straight-through mufflers, with flexible exhaust piping and leftover piping clamped on and running out of it. It's currently situated in a side-exit exhaust manner, which really accentuates the sound but limits the dreaded "droning" noise usually heard from "undercarriage" exhausts. Basically, it's straight piped, but slightly refined and, legally, isn't a "muffler cut-out" due to the added mufflers. I can post a video of the sound if you guys wish.

2005 Sport - SW full exhaust with their chambered muffler

2005 Sport - SW full exhaust with Borla ProXS mufflers(I think they are pretty much the same as the SW S-tube muffler)

I would post a video if my camera did it justice, but I'm running 28" Thrush glasspacks with 24" 3" diameter chrome tips. Sounds almost stock at idle from outside the car, just the slightest of growls inside until you start moving the accelerator. She gets pretty rauchous inside the car once the pedal passes 1/2 throttle though, almost a perfect combination for me. I do wish I had gone 26" I will say however.

Exhaust laws are different here in NC, but I will be careful if I'm driving up north. Basically here if you have a muffler and dampens the sound at all, it's legal.

Quote:
§ 20‑128. Exhaust system and emissions control devices.

(a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler, or other exhaust system of the type installed at the time of manufacture, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, annoying smoke and smoke screens.

(b) It shall be unlawful to use a "muffler cut‑out" on any motor vehicle upon a highway.

As long as it's "legal" where you are registered, they can't ticket you elsewhere...or at least that's what the Oklahoma Highway patrol told me when they stopped me for driving with a loud exhaust. The officer said he couldn't ticket me since my car wasn't registered in his state.

They’re supposed to not be able to but I’ve known a few assholes who have gone through the effort to look up the laws for my state and ticket me for them when I was pulled over out of state

Might be how Okahoma worded their statute or how that officer looked at the issue, but I assure you it's not the case. laugh

That's wrong too, on both counts. I couldn't write for a violation of another state's laws, neither can they. What I did do, …
... just 'cause I am a nice guy, was like … if say … for example ...
… I stopped a Florida car for illegal window tint here in Virginia on Virginia highway, and say the driver said "but Trooper, it's legal at home". If it was a case of just a little too dark, like say had only 35% VLT and Va required 50% VLT, If they were decent, I would usually check my official internet chart and see if it was legal in Florida and if so, give a warning.
If attitude sucked or it was like two layers of 20% film doubled to read 4% or if they had lied, I wrote it. smile

Asshole? Not me, not normally, but I knew how to be when needed. wink

Well...it was on the Power Tour, he would have had a BUSY day if he tried to enforce laws for all the vehicles driving by that day.
The second officer(also OK Highway patrol) who pulled me over that day said he liked my exhaust, and just gave me a warning for speeding.
