I have to agree. My take is I saw pictures online where some of the coating pealed off on the inside of the pan and you definitely don't want that stuff floating around in your transmission fluid let alone the valve body.

OP, I recommend the Ford Uhaul pan and a new Ford transmission pan gasket. I'm sure on the internet you can find the pan somewhere cheaper:

I hadn't heard of the paint peeling off the inside...that's a definite no-no for me. The Ford U-Haul pan is of course the best option, but the DIY drain plug addition is 2nd.

I have been installing the Dorman pan on every transmission I have rebuilt in the past 5 yrs and had ZERO issues. I even installed pans on 2 of my personal vehicles and had no problems. no leaking, no coating peeling off.

I got a drain plug from Oriellys that requires you to drill thru the pan on my wifes Dodge Dakota, Its leaks a little. Bought the same one for my Panther but this time used Permatex Thread Sealant, Still leaks a little. So either by one pre-installed or weld that sucker on!

So I took another look on RockAuto, found an odd branded one for $27 bucks. Made by ATP, part number 103363. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet because of reasons(broke!).

Have not had a chance to do a test run yet to check for mis fires just to rule it out. Iv been on the run, but I should be back home in a few hours to look into that.

I decided that I’m going to do everything at once, so it looks like it’s going to be about 3-4 weeks. I won’t be drilling in the holes myself for the separator plate, I’m actually buying the ‘kit’ from somebody for all that’s needed is just swapping parts.

I added a drain plug too. I have them on hand to install in pans as I go. Used a 1" x 2" piece of 1/8" steel, drilled a hole dead center and tapped to 1/2-20. then I used a 1/2-20 bolt through that hole, threaded a 1/2-20 nut on it against the steel, added a short weld, then removed the bolt and ran my tap through the nut & steel together, then drilled a 1/4" hole to each side. In use, I drill the single 1/2" hole and two 1/4" holes in the pan in the "dip" section towards rear, like up on slanted side, bolt the steel in place with two 1/4-20 bolts and lock-tight on the nuts, then simply use a 1/2-20 drain plug. No leaKing

I've installed at least a half-dozen of the B&M drain plugs and only had one leak...and that was because I didn't follow their instruction to tighten the inside nut to 25 ft/lbs, no higher.

So back to the whole mis fire topic. Hooked up ForScan on the laptop and had the wife drive through town/around it where some inclines and such in a 35mph zone. Total number of mis fires was 0. Torque Converter Clutch solenoid failure, none. Torque converter disengage slip, none. So that’s that. Just wanted to rule out any mis fires. I know downshifting the 3rd gear on it own is squirrely. Trans temp did not get above 170F. Engine temp, 186F. Air intake temp, 100F.

Other thing that is not related but I don’t want to make another post. My AC during this test was on obviously because it’s kind of humid out, but the compressor did not disengage at all. It just stayed engaged. I’m not too familiar with these but I don’t think that’s normal.. it’s cold as heck but I don’t think this is normal.

With all due respect, I wouldn't use it. Transmission shift problems/irregularities I would drain/pump out as much transmission fluid and refill with fresh new fluid.

Well I am a plus 1 on doing the pump out and refill. Not hard but it is easier with a helper. Also I have used Lubegard 19610 Instant Shudder Fixx Automatic Transmission Fix 2 oz "Dr Tranny" with no issue and it does stop the shudder.

I’ll revive this one.

So I did the JMod, which drains about 10 quarts. Did that about a thousand miles ago, been mostly highway driving so I haven’t been in the areas where it’s 35-40mph up a steep incline. Still getting the shudder. Not as bad as before but it’s still there. So anytime I get on this one hill in that speed zone, I turn off overdrive and don’t have a problem. Car seems to ‘hunt’ between 3 and 4th gear as usual in this area. So my question is.. really out there but am I looking at a rebuild in the future if I am still experiencing the shudder only while going up an incline at 40mph when In OD only? Dumb question but it’s worth asking I guess.

Being on cruise, at 75 mph and hitting a steep hill is butter. Downshifts a whole lot better and quicker than it did before after I did the JMod. No shudder happens at these speeds.

3-4 hunt can be mitigated by installing the sonnax overdrive pin kit with a new high performance softer overdrive spring.

As far as your shudder did you replace any valves inside the valve body?

I must not have been paying attention.

If you have an ambient temp that high, your cycle times will stretch out to on continuously. Even in the 90's and down as low as the lower 80's, you will get nothing but on with a fully charged system. Even down into the 70's you might get something like 45 seconds on and 15 seconds off.

I've been running mine lately and I can hear the clutch click like it wants to cycle off, but never even slows down. High 80's and low 90's. At least I can't see any pause. Cold is good.
