Hello all

I got a 05 grand marquis with 157,000 miles on her she still runs good and strong. My question is it still worth putting mods on it or is the mileage of the car to high?

I did the J-Mod at 57K when I had the car and change the oil every 4K and transmission every 50K.

If normal maintenance is kept up with, rust isn't an issue, then there is no reason that it shouldn't go 300,000+ miles. There might be little issues along the way, and stuff does wear out and break down with age, but the amount of money you will likely need to put into it is likely very small compared to replacing it with something newer.

If it fits what you need in a vehicle then I say keep up with it, and modify it to make it meet what you want it to do that it currently doesn't.

I starting letting things slip on mine, and I think time was just as bad if not worse than miles, and in the end added up all the little things made it not worth the time and hassle for me, I got more than moneys worth out of it, and I was emotionally attached to it, but not so much that I wasn't able to eventually let it go. It took my daughter to her first day of school and it was her first car in college. It brought my son home from the hospital, it covered 3 countries and 15 states, it protected the family in 3 fairly intense accidents, it left me once (my fault trying to push a fuel pump that gave me plenty of warning).

Mine had 222,000 when I got it,and it was getting close to 300,000 before I started doing any mods.Has about 320,000 now and still fine mechanically

Probably won't last more than a couple more years due to rust though.Thanks salt

She got alittle bit of rust forming under the inside door part but going to take car of that this summer.

Guess first mod will be duel exhuast, then 3.27 and larger MAF with tune.

After maintenance, you def need an exhaust!!!

I would knock down your transmission fluid change to at least a full fluid change every 20k. Get a U-haul transmission pan with the drain plug to make transmission fluid change easy.

Motorcraft or Wallmart fluid is just fine. Btw, I change my transmission fluid every 12k miles.

My 2005 GM Ultimate Edition just broke into 20,000.00 miles. Got her with about 9,000.00 on the odometer about a year ago.
Best upgrade mod was installing a in dash rear view camera system with blue tooth.
Hands free phone system and rocking to Pandora Kid Rock "I'm a Cowboy" is awesome.

Installed all new shocks... New slotted and drilled rotors with ceramic pads.
Dual exhaust with stainless tips.

18 inch black rims and wider tires....
Ceramic coated the exterior paint....
Dark tinted all glass

Ford dealer was amazed ....

Please explain U-Haul drain pan with plug????????

U-Haul sells these upgraded pans with a drain plug????

They're ones made for the uhaul trucks and has a higher capacity plus drain plug. Purchased like any other part, not sold by uhaul though.

Do a search for the U-haul drain pan, lots of info about it here. There are other makes who sell similar pan but some are better then others.

I believe the Dorman 265-813 will also work and it has a drain plug.

Just for reference, the "U-Haul" pan does not have increased fluid capacity...it's identical the the stock pan with the addition of the drain plug.

I was going to say that but I wasn't 100% sure. From what I remember, the reason the u-haul pan exists is because u-haul wanted to be able to easily service their vans. They have enough pull with Ford (and GM) thru their fleet accounts and large numbers of vehicles ordered that Ford complied with that request by simply modifying the standard pan and adding a drain plug. Probably costs Ford very little to do that and if it keeps a large national fleet company happy, it only makes sense for them to do so.
