Hey y'all,

A guy in my area on Facebook Marketplace has a parts New Edge Mustang listed for sale. It's basically been parted out except for the wheels and the rear end, which is an 8.8 3.73 rear end. How hard would it be to put the rear on my '04 Crown Vic? It's currently sporting an open-diff 3.27.

Thanks.

I have an '04 P71 as my daily, another '04 P71 as my parts car/future race car project, an '86 LTD 2-Door I'm restoring, and my non-panther weekend car is an LS1 Camaro. So that's that.

You can’t swap the rear axle assembly, but you can swap the gears and carrier into your rear axle assembly,y

One thing to check is the condition of the clutches in that differential. Also if you change gears you'll need a tune. Otherwise the spedo and shifting will be off.

Yep. Only thing to watch is whether its a 28 or 31-spline carrier, not sure when the Mustangs changed. If its a 31-spline, you'll need new axles for it to work in your '04, but luckily enough '05.5+ Panther axle shafts are a direct swap for a '03-'04 and are 31-spline if need-be.

Looked it up, all Mustangs '79-04 are 28 spline axles.

I'll see what the guy's asking for them, see the condition of the clutches, and if all checks out, that will be the first real mod to the Vic.

03-04 mustang svt cobra diffs are 31 spline with carbon fiber clutches. I've got a brand new one in my 08. Be sure to check 28 or 31 people do swap them as well. That being said having limited slip is a great thing to have on these cars.

The car listed is a regular New Edge GT, so it should still work just fine.
