I am considering doing an exhaust job on my 1998 Ford Crown Victoria LX. I have the stock headers and exhaust system. I noticed that I have 4 cats. one with O2 sensors and the ones without them. I was wondering, should the ones without the O2 sensors be cut off so I can have a direct connection to X pipe or H pipe with custom Flowmaster super 50 series. I'm also looking to have new exhaust piping installed after the 02 sensor cats.

It's my first car ever bought! Stock as of now. Nothing wild put on it. Paid in FULL, because making 7 year plus interest note on a new car, SUCKS!

My cars before were "hand me downs" and were a 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva, 1996 Chevrolet Corsica, 1991 Toyota Corolla, and 2004 Chevrolet Impala. All gone and forgotten.

Living in Kommifornia I wish you luck with that. That probably would fail any inspection.

Lets just say no. Do not do that. A) its illegal, and B) it is against forum rules to discuss any illegal modifications, and removing federally mandated emissions and/or safety equipment is 100% illegal in every state.

There is nothing to be gained by removing catalytic converters. They are not a restriction in the slightest. Thus, absolutely zero reason to do it. They are gone on my Town Car, but that is because they failed and the car is so rotten that it worth less than what new ones would cost. It is just a winter beater at this point. Only thing I noticed after they were gone is that the car is a bit louder. Otherwise it runs no differently than it did before they failed (catalyst broke up and was rattling around partially blocking the exhaust).

All deleting them unless your really modifying the engine does is effect the butt Dyno. That and making you far more noticeable by neighbors and the police. Also are talking about catalytic converters or resonators.

They;re all there for a reason. Get rid of some of them and it no longer functions properly. Like others have sand there's no performance gain or any reason to remove them. Most systems bolt on after the cats for that reason.
Also to avoid confusion there aren't stock headers, they're manifolds.

And with that, I think its time we close this thread. We are all on the same page. Legal or not (and it definitely is not..) there is no reason to do this.
