new here. 2000 Mercury Gand Marquis. just bought it after 1,800 miles it died on the highway had it towed and they said the fuel pump is dead. They want $1,200.00 for pump and Labor the will not use after market parts. I'm having towed to my house this afternoon. So okay what pump are the people in the group using and any issues. I'm sure there are better priced ones out there.

Delphi, Bosch are usually good...the Ford one that I found at Autozone is only $358 and that is the pump with the whole sender assembly.

Unless it is a rusty mess should take about an hour, I got a Bosch generic one that required me to splice it in, it at least survived another 100,000 miles, I am sure it would still be going but I junked the car.

I put a Delphi "universal" pump in the OEM assembly in the Town Car, it came with an adapter connector that plugged right into the stock sending unit and works just fine. The '98 came to me with a complete Delphi assembly, again, no issues.

Don't let the horror stories about needing to drop the tank scare you. It is not required if you're prepared to fight a little bit getting the pump out of the tank with it in-place. I had to unbolt the passenger side rear shock and lower the axle down to gain clearance, if the Townie had the drivers side tail pipe on it at the time, that probably would have been in the way too (it rotted off a week before the pump died and got reinstalled once the car was running again), but I'm sure at most you would need to unbolt the exhaust hangers so you could push it out of the way. I would MUCH rather deal with loosening a shock and a couple exhaust hangers over dropping a tank out of one of these cars.

These cars came OE with a Bosch Fuel Pump according to RockAuto. You can get a complete Bosch pump with the housing, the sender and the fuel sock and all the wires. Now you can get just the pump and a universal connector for around $53.89. Both these prices are without shipping. The $53.89 non complete housing does not come with a fuel strainer or fuel sock as it's called also. You have to buy a fuel sock separately.

Another vote for Delphi or Bosch.

Stay away from Airtex. Ive also had bad luck with precision brand fuel pumps from Oriellys.

on a site called partsgeek.com I got the tank, sender, pump, and tank straps for 204.00 shipped. I dont know what brand they are but they work good. My tank was rusted and leaking and sender was rotted making gas gauge not work. Everything works now.

Make sure you replace the fuel filter as well. Use a Motorcraft filter.

That's a good deal. Unfortunately it has been out of stock for a decent amount of time on RockAuto

Yep, For most fuel pump assemblies for the warranty they make you install a new fuel filter.

I use NAPA Gold air and fuel filters (made by WIX). Oil filter is Motorcraft-only.
