After 11 months of on-and-off prep work, I finally sent the Crown Vic to Maaco to be painted black for $370 ($900 before savings). One week later and a small incident of the Vic accidentally being painted the OEM color, I picked it up today and couldn't be happier about it. It's by no means a great paint job, but it's far from bad (aside from some wavy-ness on the trunk and front grille due to slightly poor prep work on my part). After the 30-day cure time I'm definitely going to work on removing the orange peel.
For what it's worth, absolute bang-for-buck paint job and definitely looks better than if I were to rattle-can it myself. Minimal overspray (although hard to tell with black) and wherever they went wrong, I can fix.

Cleaned the interior, treated the leather, Armor all-ed the interior. Realized that the speedo is still 3mph off.

Drove down to MicroCenter in Houston to try to drop a coworker's work MacBook for repair.... only to find there's a (quite long) waiting list to even get in the store, leading me to wonder how someone is supposed to be able to arrive on time for an appointment. Telephone system dumped my calls twice after 15+ minutes on hold.
Car drove great, proving that i'm not entirely incompetent at suspension/brake work, so there's that...

If it's leather, use Lexol.

(technically yesterday, I guess)
Inflated my tires back to door placard specs. Gassed it up, then let my neighbor's kid (learner's permit) drive it about 100 miles around Loop 610, down to Nasa Rd 1, and back up to the northern suburbs where I reside. Always enjoy seeing the two T-38s they have out front on poles at the space center. Car and driver both did very well.

Double-checked the door lock for sub-freezing operation and put a Christmas tree plug in the hole left by the actuator rivet.

Huh. Never seen an active-duty police car with alloys before. Those are early-90's Lincoln, yes? Yes, that was a 1989 CVPI(wheels 1993?), even had carpet! Was a very low mileage unit. Aluminum wheels are now much more common.

Oh, yeah, those. Mopars are supposed to be weird, though.

Huh. Never seen an active-duty police car with alloys before. Come out to Lake County. You'll see plenty of these: Hubcaps... Same old Charger steelie under that skin there. I don't think too many agencies would be happy cracking an aluminum rim in hard driving and having to pay for one.
