Now that the reveal of the next-gen pony car is getting nearer, the rumors seem to be firming up, so they might be reflecting reality more closely. And what I think is one of the most ridiculous among those rumors appears to be coming true: a Ford Mustang sedan is on the horizon.
When I say “ridiculous” I don’t mean it’s unbelievable. No, I believe Ford will slap the Mustang badge on anything if it will help to boost sales. To an extent that’s understandable, but to an extent it’s also disgusting. For the record, I would’ve been equally disgusted had Porsche slapped a 911 badge on the Panamera. Fortunately, the Germans had the wisdom to give that four-door model its own name.
According to YouTube channel Matt Maran Motoring, two different unnamed sources have confirmed the sedan version of the Mustang is coming next year. It supposedly will share a platform and styling cues with the coupe. This of course isn’t confirmed, so don’t take this as gospel truth, but it’s likely mostly accurate. I'd be skeptical if the Mach-E didn't exist. I don't get why they don't revive perfectly fine names like Fairlane, Galaxie, Fairmont, and even Taurus.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they rebadged the f-150 as the mustang.

Remember 2003 when everyone laughed at the Lincoln Mark LT? A luxury pickup truck, WTF, who would buy that?
At this point, Mustang, Explorer and F-series are the only Ford nameplates with wide recognition, so we can expect more re-branding. Would you buy an EcoSport if they called it Mustang Cobra III? Too many people would.

Better a sedan than slapping it on a crossover wanna-be SUV. Testify, brother... On another note, what is a CUV supposed to BE exactly? If SUV stands for Stupid Useless Vehicle, then I imagine CUV is Cute Useless Vehicle? They certainly have no "utility"...

Really, it's just a tall sedan with a hatchback.

They tried that with the Five Hundred, remember? The "replacement" for the Taurus. Let's kill off a nameplate that sells for one that people might remember, if they were paying attention in the 1960s. Maybe they thought they'd go 200-up on Chrysler? Then they changed it back and people started buying them.

I'll be truly shocked if the new "Mustang" sedan weighs less than a Crown Vic.
