You always have to disagree. I have some fenceposts you would disagree with. And I did not say they were designed for the police. I said:

RS-A police tires were designed for grip and for high speed stability, not for civilian vehicles to get 50K out of.

Accept the challenge. My "junk" against your savior of the world Firestones. You have a '97, possibly some pursuit training, etc. I have none of those... How about title for title, you name the road.

Going for some RSA's. Do they still make them anymore for the CV?

Yes, I was not long ago looking at them at both Tire Rack and Discount Tire. There are two versions shown at Tire Rack, one has lower wear rating but costs are higher, it's a pursuit tire. I get fair mileage out of them.

Holy necro thread! Hasn't been a comment in 15 years!

They still make them...but they're expensive.
They're also absolutely horrible tires.
They have absolutely no grip in even the lightest of rain.

You can do so much better, for so much cheaper!

We used them on police cars for over half my 31+ year career, pursuit, snow, rain, sleet, summer heat. I learned to love them, have on two cars now. I know there are two versions, one is softer and wears faster and is expensive, the other is harder, wears longer, and is cheaper.

Is there 2 versions of the RSA itself or do you mean 1 is an RAS and the other is the RSA Plus?

For Police versions, the plus variant appears to only apply to the 225-60-16 size. The plus was for the 03 - 05 cvpi's.

Then there are two police variants in the 235 55 17 size. One is spec'd for crown vics and one for chevy impala. Reading a while back on the goodyear site, it talked about some tailored differences in compound and construction for those two per engineers requirements.

To add to the mix, there was at least a 3rd part number for the regular 235-55-17 RS-A that was in there normal tire line up.

The chart does indicated they are still available as of 9/2020. And maybe at the full 200+ price, they maybe current date code fresh. But seems most offerings online have a statement about possibly being not the latest date codes. Set I purchased the other year i recall were like 2017 and 2018 codes in the set. Was going to put them on this fall, but the originals still looks so damn good and have plenty of tread left.

They have NOT disappointed me in any way.

Looking at the chart on Tire Rack, looks like they list a 235/55-17 Eagle RSA in two versions, both with the same utqg 260AA. All the specs look the same except tread width, one (TPC spec) is 7.7" (@ $185.05) and the other is 8.2" (@ $179.89). I know the utqg 260 is low, but the AA is great and I usually got easily over 20K on a tire on my last '07 CVPI unless damaged (as can happen in that use). On my Mercury, they wear longer, time is the culprit there so I keep the car and tires covered. Both show as 4 in stock, but can be ordered.

If I were buying them now, I'd go with the 8.2" tread version. I am not sure what "TPC" means, maybe "TrooPer Car" ... shrug . If I were buying them for a daily driven primary vehicle with lots of commuting, I'd probably buy some longer wear rated tires.

I'm pretty sure that the slightly narrower tread TPC tire is what is on my Mercury now.

Like 85GT said ^^, the "Plus" only shows for the 225/60-16. The Plus tire in 16" has a 340AA rating.

“TPC” is Tire Performance Criteria
