new one for me. wife went to work car over heated, limped home. later i checked the tank and empty. filled up with water and put cap back on. stated up fine, ran for a while, turned on the ac and didn't hear fan kick on. temp still looked ok and thought its cool out today, maybe it wasn't warm enough yet. put the car in gear, needle started to rise. car is running and i popped the hood hoping to see a coolant leak and right as i went back to turn ac off the cap blew off and a coolant volcano flowed out the front! crazy!! lasted about 10 seconds! covered the whole engine! never seen a cap just blow off!! HELP!!!

went out and started the '07 and let it idle for a little bit then turned on ac. about 10 seconds the fan kicked on. refilled '09 with water and started up. idled fine. turned on ac and no fan. will be putting new fan on today.

Before you run out and get a new fan, check the fan relay in the BJB (next to the battery). A new relay is a lot cheaper than a whole new fan assembly.

Fan relay is not in the junction box, it's on the shroud next to the fan itself, and is a common failure point.

Edit Reason: I really don't like hitting the "x" key if I can substitute something different

Thanks for the correction, bluejay. I did notice (at least on my 2004) that there's a fan fuse (F102, 50A) in the BJB...that must have been what I was thinking.

I had one or two returned at Advance, but it was rare, they were Stant too. Looked like the cap cracked across the threads and just let go, kind of like a plastic water hose bib nut that's been tightened too many times or just "was it's time" maybe. I know guys who worked there for years whom said they had never seen it.
