I've never tried one, but when my factory radiator starts leaking, I'll probably bite the bullet on one of these.

I'm sure there will probably be some minor fitment issues, but it appears to be close enough to work.

Was just surprised, radiatorexpress.com carries all-aluminum models for my Explorer, my Super Duty, my Expedition, but only a stock (with plastic tanks) model for my Vic.

I bought an all-aluminum from eBay for my Explorer years ago, and it's been more than acceptable. I did have to cut the fittings off my transmission lines, install different fittings, and re-flare the lines to fit the new radiator, which was annoying, but not really a difficult task, and as I said, I'm overall happy with it - was just hoping to find a US-made option other than eBay that wouldn't have similar needs.

I was looking at the aluminum radiators also. The product information says its 30% more efficient at dissipating heat then the stock radiator.

In terms of performance, if you're still running your stock thermostat how is that 30% going to be of benefit if your thermostat still opens at the same temperature?

Personally I'm trying to reduce some denotation when it's really hot out. I'm thinking of upgrading to a aluminum radiator and a Stewart water pump.

It's not going to dissipate 30% more heat unless it has 30% more tubes. If it does, that's good and you should buy it.

The thermostat only sets the minimum coolant temp, once the engine is warmed up. It opens at 190F, and if the radiator does its job, water comes back in at maybe 120, to be heated back up, etc. But if it's too hot outside, or airflow is restricted, the water coming back in is up to 150, the engine heats it to 210, it comes back at 170, goes out at 230, etc etc until the system vents itself due to overpressure. That scenario is where a more efficient radiator is beneficial.

It's also possible that the 30% claim is pure BS. That's what I'd expect from an ebay radiator, but it's possible there are reputable builders selling there.

Usually the say it's the aluminum core that's more effective then the old ones. The tank doesn't make any difference.

Thanks for the response Stu. So it's sounds like it's only beneficial for dealing with heat soak that comes from hard racing and such. Not worth it for daily driving.

It could be helpful if you live where it's hot and do a lot of stop-n-go driving. Extra cooling capacity never hurts. You might need to upgrade/add to your fan to take full advantage of it.

I ran an electric water pump on my 5.4 for years . When I abuse the car for extended period , the stock radiator cant really do the job BUT the pump does great to cool it down on idle , you can almost see temp going down .
That being said I also bought a ebay all aluminumn rad for my car so I shall see how it works with my set-up
