Its a 1996 that has a 6 point cage, nascar style door bar on the drivers side, full dash bar.

The car has been basically gutted, most of the extra wiring is gone, no hvac, wiper, doors are a shell, trunk is a shell, has a 7.8lb battery, and the fuel tank was completely empty.

It weighed 3210. This is full race weight minus fuel and driver. and i probably have another 50 to 60 pounds i can remove. There is more to go on the doors, i need to remove the giant steering column brace, and the hood needs to be gutted. It is getting a cool suit setup so that will basically cancel out the remaining weight that i am going to remove.

We should be able to get it fairly close to 50/50 weight distribution. Its going to get an auxiliary fuel tank/surge tank that will get mounted as far back as i can.

In the end it should be roughly 3500 with driver and fuel. Not terrible since it was likely 3700+ from ford.

FWIW, the boxes weighed about 3800 when new, and the aeros and whales were heavier. So you dropped close to 600 pounds, still using the steel body panels. Not bad.

speaking of boxes , when I was at Pantera's place few years ago he had a box frame sitting so for the heck of it I tryed lifting the frame . With two guys you can literaly do anything you want with it and even almost twist it as it's so flimsy. In comparison the 03 frame that I had at home was way heavier and rigid even without the aluminum sub frame. I cant tell how heavier the frame is on a 03 but it,s pretty significant.

you can see the lack of a trunk, door panels and glass.

It was painted by the previous owner as a 24 hours of lemons theme. I really cant wait to sand it all off and paint it to match my BOSS 302.

I hate that side exit exhaust but im waiting to redo it when i get a set of longtubes. It still sits too high but im likely going to skip some custom springs and go with a set of coilovers. Im going to grab some corner lights and a rear bumper the next time I hit up a junkyard.

There is so much work and time that goes into these cars its not even funny.

Some do, but I believe at a certain year they changed over to steel. (I think ‘95/‘96”.. don’t remember)

Both the 96 and 97? I’m pretty sure at some point they changed over .. I could be mistaken.

Yes both of them . I kept the whole front end of my 96 as spare parts and still have my 97 vic so at least for these two I am 100% sure. could be a mid year thing , I dont know .

98 is the change over year, it’s the trunk lids that aren’t always aluminum with the Aeros. 92-94 are steel, 95-97 are aluminum iirc
