Frankly, the main problem I have with the Maverick is, “Why?”.. I mean what’s the point. If they were going to make a small truck, why didn’t they just make the Ranger that.
I think they're trying to attract people outside of the BOF market. Think the person who doesn't want the ride quality and (perceived) fuel economy penalties. The person who really "doesn't like trucks" but is getting tired of waiting 3 hours to rent the Home Depot truck every Saturday.
Keeping the Ranger BOF keeps it more in line with the people who "don't want a sedan with a bed, dammit." Don't tell me for a second people wouldn't bemoan how the Ranger got p*ssified if they'd made this thing the new one.
I know Ford is quasi-trying to make compare this thing to it's truck offerings, but I think it makes more sense if you don't try to do that. If you think this thing isn't manly enough for truck status, buy an F-150. Think the F-150 is too big? Buy the Ranger. Think the Ranger is too big? Keep dreaming, the tiny BOF truck market is gone. And believe me, I hear ya. I've been searching the listings for a clean S-10 that isn't ridiculously priced for a few years now.
