One of these weeks, I'll try to get to a car show and hopefully meet you in person finally.

Well, the wagon is so hilariously awful that people can't help but love it, so maybe I will just drag the rustbucket into a show. laugh

Thanks! smile It's pretty rare to see one of these. Actually full sizers are rare as a class. It's not perfect, but a very good driver quality. I've spent the last 2 yrs. going over all of the drive-ability issues, trying to get it to run as good as it looks! Otherwise I try to preserve what's original. The only upgrade I did was the Pertronix electronic ignition to be rid of points and condenser. I also restored some of the minor systems that were disconnected; Replaced the PCV valve and Breather cap, installed a new ported vacuum switch, and its tubing. The only thing that is difficult is stuff that can't be found anymore. Like the waxstat that regulates the air cleaner flap. So I have an "M" shaped piece of romex in there to hold the flap open to cool air in the summer. In the winter I can remove it. The flap DOES work, but not at the correct temps. Stuff like that. I installed HD springs and load leveling coil over shocks too, so it has a better ride, and sits a bit higher too. No worries about bottoming out, like before. A lot of good stuff was already done by former owners. Like dual stainless steel exhaust, new top, new tires etc.

Hey Grump i seen this video and thought of your car. Cool to see this car blasting down the straights and floundering through the corners.

Thanks for the vid. I wondered about the specs of their car, claiming it had a 400 (not a 429) plus it was detuned for regular gas. My car's 429 has 10.5 compression, and requires premium gas. I don't have the timing retarded at all, in fact I have it advanced beyond factory specs: 6* to 12* I totally agree with the suspension though. That is why I redid mine by adding heavy duty springs on all 4 corners, and new coil-over load-leveling shocks on all 4 corners too. It rides much better, even though it's STILL kinda floaty! But it never bottoms out anymore (like it did) I think Consumer Reports or someone back then did the slalom test and they were losing hubcaps all the time (LOL) One thing the video DOES approve is the braking. Ford had the industry's best brakes back then. They have already saved my car once when someone ran a red light, just as I was sailing through it on my way to a cruise-in. In fact even my '03 GMQ has fantastic brakes.

Yesterday I attended the Mentor Cruise In. What a great day! There were about 1000 cars registered. Plenty of food, music, and goodies. Mentor puts on a really great show! We got there sort of early (about 9:00am). The pic below is how it looked when we got there! We stayed until it ended at 4pm. Got a little sunburn as a souvenir.. mad

Next to me was a '70 Monte Carlo with a stroked 472 that only gets 5mpg. Since he drove from Cleveland, he figured the gas alone cost him $35!

This is the first one I went to. But they have been doing it for a number of years I understand. AACA puts it on there.

Went to another show last night: The St. Justin Martyr Church festival and car show held at the Italian and American Club in Wickliffe. Not a big show, but lots of stuff to do and eat. Very generous goody bag too! laugh I had the top down going there and back on Rt. 2.

Yesterday I attended the "Roar by the Shore" Cruise-In. It is held at Mentor Beach Park in Mentor on the Lake, right on Lake Erie. This show may have even been better than the Mentor Cruise In of 3 wks. ago. Probably about 600 cars plus. Food vendors, car vendors, DJ, Military Color guard and band opened the show with the Star Spangled Banner, since the proceeds of the show were going to the vets. I got there at 8:30am to secure a good spot under the shade of a huge line of old oak trees. (Although rogue acorns were diving into my car..)

They are going to do a segment on my car on a TV show called "Cruise-In.tv" which is on the Sports Time Ohio channel, and also they have a YouTube channel. They were shocked to learn that there was such a thing as a convertible Mercury Marquis! They interviewed me on camera, and spent about an hour shooting every conceivable angle on my car, plus I had to demonstrate the tail lights working along with the headlights.. Pretty neat! The show will air 11/7 @ 6pm.

See pics at: https://www.supermotors.net/registry/28903/88857

view of cars at 8:30AM !! You have to arrive early for this show.

A horror hearse! About 1940..
