Good morning,
First time poster. I have a 2002 Grand Marquis with 90,000 miles. My overdrive light has started flashing recently. Does not do it all the time. Only thing I have notice is my 1-2 shift seems to be harsher. I have an engine code reader but it does read transmission codes. Could you recommend one? Does the car store transmission codes? I know that it is hard to diagnose an issues over the internet. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, with an appropriate reader, a flashing OD light should set a code that can be read.
