I got a police tube and air box from LKQ pretty reasonable. Lots of them still out there. I have not installed them yet. Waiting for other mods so I only have to tune it once.

This is where I’m at. I want to upgrade gears and add a Trak-Lok at the same time as swapping in the new air intake so I’ll need to tune it only once.

This pandemic derailed my upgrade plans because some of the stuff I want needs to be ordered from the States, but with the border closed I can’t get across to Ogdensberg NY to pick up my stuff at the UPS store (to save some coin on shipping).

I’ve decided on pretty much everything I want to do with one exception. I’m undecided on whether or not I will eventually get the Stainless Works headers to go with my SW exhaust.

I have the long tubes but am trying to decide if I do them only or port the heads and maybe cams.

Guy's who ran them on diesels doing oil analysis saw worryingly large increases in damaging contaminates with them. The oil from the filter contaminates you're MAF sensor making your engine run poorly. And then it's not sealed to the radiator support like the factory box so instead of getting cool air, you're sucking the hot under hood air, costing more power. With the factory box sealed there's also a slight ram-air effect because of the high pressure area behind the headlights when you're driving. That factory Marauder setup, with a basic paper filter, will flow more than enough clean air to support 500hp.

K&N's are good for what they were designed for, race cars that get the engines inspected and torn down regularly.

Some of those disadvantages can be outweighed with some heat reflective tape, sheet aluminum, and rivets but I will agree the filters are pretty [censored].

Not sure how This became a "bash the k&n" post but he asked what I did and showed him. Also was able to get 300 whp NA by adding the intake. Will also work in my favor with the head light out and while spraying nitrous and having cobra cams.

I mean if you have a bending brake, or a metal working hammer and a sturdy piece of square tubing, you could bend up some sort of heat shield for the cone filter. It may also be possible to modify the stock airbox to act as a heat shield, though I've never tried it

Do the aftermarket CIAs have 80mm MAF to go with them? There's another P71 advantage.

I have an 08 with the K&N panel filter. When I first opened it from the plastic it came in, I blew off the excess oil from the filter and installed it. I have since cleaned it twice with their cleaner and haven't exactly re-oiled the filter before reinstalling it into my cvpi airbox without any issue's. She's a totally stock ripper.

Transmission currently on the bench at Mikes, Jupiter Transmissions doin all the upgrades. 3.73's on schedule, and perhaps a 5.4 dohc swap. Have a Painless headlight harness to be installed but picked up the HF 20" fog/spot light, mounted in the middle of the pushbar, that totally works great. for now...

Running a dry K&N is about the worst thing you can do short of an open intake, the filter media openings are huge in comparison to a dry filter. The oil film is what catches all the fine particulate. Without oil you're letting in all the fine abrasives through that are gonna do the most damage once they reach the oiling system. How many miles have you driven like this? It'd be interesting to see what an oil analysis says,
