This is a strange combination.......

After driving my ‘11 CVPI dor about 20-30 minutes the “wrench” light to the right of the transmission indicator on the instrument cluster comes on. When this happens the emgine cooling fan comes on. The CEL does not come on and there are no error codes in the controller. The temperature gauge reads normal.

Any idea what is going on?

Thanks in advance.

MrMike,
Marblehead MA.

Wrench light indicates a non-emissions or manufacturer fault code is stored.
Cheap scanners cannot read these codes.
Plug in to a better scanner.

Also check the wiring to the cylinder head temp sensor, which is located underneath the intake manifold on driver side. The wiring runs to a connector on the front of the driver fuel rail. Damage or corrosion here would result in the fan coming on when sensor signal is lost.

The fan would also engage whenever AC is selected, or whenever engine reaches 210°.
