My horn keeps blowing my fuse, I've had this problem ever since the horn incident. For those of you who don't know about it (or don't remember, because I did post about it once) I had an incident with my horn. I came home one day from work, parked my car, went inside, and by the time I got inside the 3rd floor condo, I could hear a horn honking outside through my patio door. I thought maybe someone's car alarm was going off or something. I look outside, then open the door a little bit a go "is that my car?" So I go outside and yep, sure enough, it was my car, honking it's fool head off. So I try to figure out a way to stop it from honking. I was thinking too straigh or I WOULD have though to pull the fuse but it was just honking like crazy and after about 20 minutes it blew the fuse. When that happened, I never really tried fixing the horn. Now, after about a year and a half after that happened, I'm trying to get my horn working again. I already replaced my horn relay so it's not that. Someone told me a wire could be grounding out and causing it to blow the fuse but I checked and I can see no wire touching metal. If I put a fuse in and try using the horn with the car turned off, I can honk it quite a few times before it blows it. If I try honking it with the car turned on, it will only honk once and blow the fuse immediately. The fuse I am talking about is the one under the distribution box.

I would also look at the steering wheel. It sounds like the horn switch is stuck on.

Just to clarify, it is a constant horn not a beep, beep, beep?

Honestly, I don't know if the horn is good or not. As I said, I can push my horn button and get a couple honks out of it before the fuse blows with the car turned off and I can only push it once to get it to honk with the car turned on before it blows a fuse. It doesn't honk by itself like it did that one day. Also, the air bag light is not blinking and no, my cruise control doesn't work either. It did when I first got the car but somewhere along the way it stopped working.

The only thing I see at AutoZone.com is an airbag clockspring. I don't have an airbag in my steering column. I think my vehicle may have previously been in an auto accident before I bought it and the bag must have deployed but no one ever replaced it before I came along. What difference would this make? Can anyone explain?

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Or could I just have a bad horn?

15 years later.....

If the horns run long enough, the insulation in the coils will burn up causing the coil wraps to short together. This just happened to my '04 when the steering wheel switch got stuck. I'll probably just disconnect the wheel switch and install a dash button and new horns. It's starting to cool off in New England and it needs to pass inspection in December.
