Alright. I'm organizing the first CVN meetup for the Austin, TEXAS area in what appears to be quite some time. CVNers from wherever else, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, wherever are of course welcome.

I read a few of the other Austin meetup related threads from years past; there was suggestion of doing a track event day down South or at the oval in-between San Antonio and Austin. However there was also interest in a simple meet-n-greet. Both are of interest generally speaking, it seems, and appeal to different folk.

That said, for this attempt at a meetup, let's try for something simple just to see if anything can come of it: just an old-fashioned meet-n-greet.

I know the GM at the Rudy's on 620N, so I'll toss that in as the initial location. Open to feedback. The meetup date will be April 25th, as both tax day and Easter will have come and gone by then, and the weather will be generally warmer. May 2nd will be the rain date.

So who's in? Count us, of course!

Well, it's likely obvious, but for clarity reasons we'll postpone the Austin CVN meetup this weekend. Disappointing, but that's the crazy world we live in these days with COVID-19.

So let's reset for the fall in order to allow what will hopefully be plenty of time for recent events to unfold and life to return to some resemblence of what we used to know it to be. I'll post a date soon, but pencil in something for late September/early October.

Stay safe!

Delayed update, but I figured that the lack of a notice of a meetup would yield the status regarding an early fall gathering.

Anyway given the COVID situation continuing at least for the time being, let's reset for the spring. March/April timeframe.

Thanks!

Well March/April has all but come-n-gone. Although TEXAS has officially opened and the mask restriction lifted (last I checked anyway), it seems like good counsel to hold off a bit longer. So let's see where things are when the heat cools off a bit in the fall. September/October timeframe (again).

Thanks!

Hey, I've been lurking this thread for a while, just wanted to say I am interested in the meetup and future track day. Hopefully some more lurkers will come forward too. As I live about an hour outside Austin, the drive over there is more likely to end me than this virus haha. So I am more than comfortable with a September/October meetup.

Alright folk, we've delayed it long enough. It's time for an Austin/Central TEXAS meetup. This gathering will be of the meet-n-greet type, with details to follow:

WHAT: Austin CVN Meetup
WHEN: Saturday, September 18th (rain date: Saturday, September 25th), 1 pm
WHERE: Rudy's 620
7709 Ranch Rd 620, Austin, TX 78726

I chose this location because I know the GM and will possibly be able to get reserved parking if I know how many vehicles will be in attendance. Furthermore, this Rudy's has fuel and a car wash. Finally, it's Central TEXAS BBQ, who doesn't like that?!?! laugh

All CVNers from other cities/regions are welcome too of course. So if you wanna make the trek from San Antonio, D/FW, Houston, or wherever else we'd be glad to see ya.

Obviously the pandemic continues so let's follow general social distancing protocols. And so much the better if you've done the vax thing. Personally I did the J&J a while ago but tend to err on the side of caution just the same.

Anyway I extend the invitation to all who are interested and look forward to meeting you and seeing your Panther!

Thanks,
Jerry

Update to the Austin CVN meet-up:

The wx continues to look favorable for this Saturday's meet-n-greet. I haven't received any feedback regarding how many might attend. Thus I haven't requested reserved parking from the Rudy's GM. However we should be able to make something work for whoever shows up. He does know of our event though.

We're still on as of now anyway. If the wx or something else crops up, I'll notify everyone via this thread. Otherwise I'll see ya there!

Thanks,
Jerry

Well fellas, this was the extent of the Austin CVN:

We had 5 reserved spaces, not knowing how many were planning on attending, but in the end it was just us. 'Waited around until 2 pm, then called it. Oh well, The 5-O received a thourough wash and wax so that's something.

Y'all take care.

I'm new on the forum, just purchased a former Temple PD 2011 CVPI. Retired, lots of time. Currently going thru the car bumper to bumper and replacing anything marginal. Plus tons of upgrades.
If the car is finished, I'll be at the next meet.Ridiculous that no one made it to the last one.

I'm fairly new here. I'll check in to see if another one gets planned at some point.

I live about 15 minutes from that Rudy's, FWIW.

av8or1: Appreciate your good efforts on this. Too bad about the turn out.

I just got done with some major refurb work on my 2011 LX, and would enjoy showing it off. Please post back here if another meet-up is planned. BTW, I'm in Fort Worth.

I feel for you. When I planned for mid summer Utah Panther rendezvous at the prompting of two or three other guys, I called and wrote everyone I knew, all of my Internet connections, advertised here, passed out fliers on the windshields of every panther I spotted on the road for three weeks, and taped off a section of the restaurant parking lot for about 15 cars.

Only my two cars and one other P71 showed up. But the last minute cancellations poured in like a flash flood.

Never do that again.

Thank y'all for the feedback. Yeah the turnout wasn't what I had anticipated. I had been looking forward to seeing other Panthers and hearing the back-stories of both vehicle and owner. That is the most intruiguing aspect of such endeavor, or at least for me it is.

If there seems to be enough interest then perhaps we can make another attempt at an Austin CVN gathering in the spring once the wx is more favorable. Given that time frame I may attempt to combine the next meetup with the unveiling of Ol' Blue. That'd be kinda cool. I may also announce it in the "Events" sub-forum to broaden the announcement and reach a wider audience. Sounds like Dmlanch made similar strides without much to show for it, ouch. I likely won't go to that much effort, but a posting in the "Events" venue seems like a good idea. I digress.

See y'all in the Spring!

FYI, now here in October, I'm hearing from the same few guys who pushed me to organize my June "rendezvous", they're saying, "When are you doing another?"

Me: "Uh never... and you didn't come to the last one, why are you asking? You schedule one and I'll come to it."

And that is where it will sit and remain, I'm sure.

Meanwhile, I'm taking the Gray Ghost with its new GMQ wood panels and Town Car seats and working premium sound system up to Salt Lake for an opera matinee today. That's as good a solo outing as I'm likely to get.
